 |
|
_________________________________________________________
ALAN CAVE is pretty clear where ZIN and PHANTOMS should be mentioned when it comes to their legacies in the Haitian music industry. This is what he told us when we asked him the following question below.
*KOMPA MAGAZINE: ZIN has been mentioned in the same breath as Phantoms by many in the past because of the past rivalry between the bands. Having said that, if people were to go by HIT SONGS and CATALOG, in terms of LEGACY, would you be INSULTED to have ZIN be mentioned in the same breath as Phantoms? Do they DESERVE to be mentioned in the same breath or not..PHANTOMS and ZIN?
ALAN CAVE: "Although I'd like to be humble. There's absolutely no comparison when it comes to hit songs! No, I wouldn't be insulted if Phantom were to be mentioned in the same breath as Zin because they honestly had a great short lived run."
*KOMPA MAGAZINE: So PHANTOMS and ZIN are along the same line in terms of LEGACY in the Haitian music industry...THE ONLY DIFFERENCE in your opinion were HIT SONGS? That's it...right?
ALAN CAVE: "I THINK NOT. I take nothing away from Phantom but I don't think we are along the same line. If ZIN's footprint is a size 13 in history, Phantom's would get a well deserved 7. Wink."

True that...true that...definitely not like DP Express-Scorpio where production and time in the HMI were neck to neck or Skah-Shah/Tabou in their glory years
13 (Zin) and 7 (Phantoms) is more than fair. Typical Alan (Mr nice Guy).
If Kino (Phantoms) still wants to complain, they will be a 13 with a missing shoe...they can either have both feet in one shoe or one foot in and one naked foot. They don't deserve to have a pair of shoes (Size 13), too much for them.
Not even close...them 2 should not be in the same sentence " HMI Legacy" wise _________________ My future's so bright I've got to wear shades |

I agree with Alan.
I would only add that Phantoms top Zin nan kategori "musique engagée", when Kino became political he and his band had met some great souls along the way.
Zin is ahead in the industry, perhaps Alan is the reason why...his songs, his voice have reached millions and for some reasons on most college and university campuses in the US kids who were born here became huge fans of Cave and that prolonged his longevity.....
Phantoms and Kino were sleeping in History.
I loved Phantoms. I was not a fan of Zin during the rivalry. I loved everything Kino was saying and I followed him.
it was almost like rebel music.
I had kasèt fatom nan Walkman mwen, I became a fan of Zin afterward leu m vin anbwase la poésie et l'art d'écrire des trucs romantiques men philosophenoir never threw away the great phantoms moments.
Tanpri frap pa frape,
M sonje lontan leu m timoun lol _________________ «Nègre, je suis et, nègre, je resterai.» Je suis Philosophenoir |
