HMI Bands that are not aware of this, might want to take note. We understand that if you want to be considered for playing gigs at most schools/colleges, they will apparently require that the band have INSURANCE to perform the gig. I have been told by a couple of bands that they have actually LOST a couple of gigs because when the schools/universities demanded if they had insurance...the answer was NO.

There are certain HIGH LEVEL CLUBS that are also doing that as far as we've been told; so this might be something that the bands that do NOT have insurance; might want to look into.

That have been like that for years ...and that includes DJ's as well.

There is place a DJ can't play wedding communion ect if they
don't have it .

At time i know there have been place in BK that give or sell fake
one but .. Most of those venues Required them.

Most of the time you can say yes and they don't check .. but there
are select few that does . .

Here in the DMV I had to deal with situations like that before and if you find yourself in such situation here is a good solution. Find an insurance agency that can sell you a ONE DAY LIABILITY INSURANCE...you may get one very cheap for up to a million or 2 millions dollars at a very good price. Usually I got one for my carnival floats just in case something happen during the parade.
So if a venue ask you for insurance...don't panic, tell them you will get it and just do your homework. It usually take one day or two to get the papers together sometimes it may take just a few hours.
Cross Road Nigh Club also made me take an insurance for a show with Boukman Eksperyans, and ironically they didn't make me take the insurance for other shows later once I build rapport with them. The reason was when they are first dealing with a promoter they do that so that they would not have to use their insurance in case something happen to the place...So remember what to ask for....ONE DAY LIABILITY INSURANCE....just like you can take a ONE DAY LIQUOR LICENSE from the Liquor Board for a show....except for that one you may have to jump a few more ropes depending on the place because the board have to approve it and you may need a friend that has a Non Profit Organization 501 (c) 3 to help you get the paper work much faster.You don't have to have insurance all year long because not every place is asking for it, and most places can even guide you on where to get it. That could be a good question too since they have them on file, just ask them to share the information from previous clients/renters or bands.
