I was talking to someone in the industry and he made an observation which I thought deserved merit. He told me that if I notice in a lot of songs, HAITIAN MUSICIANS are quick to praise the Antilles Market by saying "Aux Antilles, A guadeloupe...Martinique...NOU PRALE or NAP VINI", but yet IT IS VERY VERY RARE that we hear artists/songs from the Antilles where the artisits are reciprocating the same love for the Haitian market. YO PAP DI NOU PRALE HAITI or HAITI NAP VINI.

The gentleman says that it is a form of KISS ASS to that market that our ARTISTS/MUSICIANS tend to do....whereas THEY DON'T DO IT FOR US.

WHAT GIVES? Do you agree or not?

PART 2

On another front, the same gentleman was telling me that some Haitian bands are going crazy trying to score a hit song in the Antilles market (Guadeloupe/Martinique) BY PLAYING ZOUK...Not in fact realizing that the people down there in that market are actaually appreciating our own music COMPAS MUCH MORE RIGHT NOW than ZOUK.

Like the gentleman said: ARE WE KISSING ASS?

That is something that I wondered they don't broadcast their love for our market in the same fashion has haitian peeps.

But to be fair, there are in Boston on Haitian television pushing their events and stuff.

Pat,
Did the gentleman also tell you How much the antillans respect our artists, something I think most haitian melomane would need a crash course in.
I am not for the kissing ass but I am sure when Douby or Shoubou shouts '' aux antilles '' nap vini they know the type of welcome they get when they get down to those antilles. Did the gentleman also tell you that we sell more albums in the antilles than in the states.
Peace

Pat,
I said the same thing when I go to a haitian party and the Dj is pumping nothing but Jamaican music where as when I go to jamaican parties I never hear a Haitian song, well most Zouk artist nowadays are singing love song I think it would be kind of ackward to hear allo haiti during a love song but we have many Zouk artist who sang about Haiti. Artist such as Patrick Parole, Jn Luc Leandri, Simon Jurad, Jn Luc Gannel, Ralph Thamar, Dede St. Preux, Eric Virgal we have Jn Michel Cabrimol who wrote a song for Ex president Aristide. We have countless of others Zouk artist who cherished our beloved music genre.
Pat tell that prominent figure to do his homework stop talking just for the hell of talking

Pat, I would not put it as "ass kissing" it's more of the way that they are (Antillais) welcome and appriciated our music and our artists.
Believe or not our artists get more love Aux Antilles than they get from us.
The Antillais will praise our music or our country when WE start doing so ourself. When WE stop giving the priority to other cultures.

I don't think this has anything to do with ass kissing, if anything, it is just pure marketing when you think about it, these bands not only know how much they love them in this part of the world, but these people play a big part when it comes to buying these bands' albums. I don't have the stats but I'm sure that they buy more albums than our brothers and sisters in the motherland.

WONDER and ST WILGUENS

I agree with your points, but how do you guys feel about the other points brought up in the post? The part about our HMI bands trying to play ZOUK to crossover while COMPAS is more popular over there right now. Also about the other question.

Thanks

KM!

Pat,

I think this gentleman is misinform because as many already mentioned our music and artists are well loved "aux Antilles" and second of all it is my understanding when the artist called up the different countries they're referring to their fan based in those countries not kissing ass.

As to his second point, I don't which band he is referring to right now. If anything, I think it's the reverse, a lot of Zouk songs want to play konpa, particularly after the implosion the konpa love genre.

Simple is that:
We make money with them...
They don't make money with us...

Lè Wyclef ap chanté an espagnol se figu panyol yo l-ap acheté?
NON.
Se pou-l atiré yo...

It's a business action.
That's it...
