*LOD NAN DEZOD: This is the first song on the CD, and is also the track/video used to launch this latest campaign in August. I like the idea of using Compas Direct founder Nemours Jean Baptiste at the beginning; as a way to say that he is giving Djakout the task of restoring order in a chaos industry (Lod Nan Dezod). It has typical Djakout signature grooves enhanced by the keytar of course. I really like the "Mete Lod Nan Dezod...Min Piyay La Fini" chorus part a lot. It also has interesting typical Djakout ingredients in there to satisfy your Djakout craving.

For the Djakout fan/fanatik, this song will be seen as gold; but for the non-fan, it will be seen as "Minm ti baggay La". This song will do well Live...but it would NOT have been the song that I would have dropped as the first single; only because there are more deserving tracks on the CD that deserved the honor.

*LIBRE D'AIMER: The first song sung by newcomer Steeve Khe on the CD. It deals with the typical WE ARE FROM DIFFERENT WORLDS scenario that couples tend to face in real life, and the battle of having the PARENTS approve of the new partner. You immediately see what KHE brings to the group with his voice being the weapon. This track has been one of the most popular tracks from the early signs from the songs on the CD. This is a very beautiful track that has potential to become huge on the market. "Reyalite a" was the surprise hit from the last Djakout CD; well, I can tell you that THIS one is much better in my opinion in every sense of the word than Reyalite a, so make of that what you want. Nice melodies, Danceable "Plogue" approved. A very nice introduction of Steeve Khe on the CD to the world.

*TET FRET: Strong message in this song about NOT needing to go the illegal route in trying to reach your dreams, therefore the term it's best to "RET TET FRET" (Stay Cool and not be tempted). Si w sentiw mouye "TODE KO W". Djakout can make a great dance with another one "PATININ" found in the song. A perfect Djakout appetizer with all the trimmings in this one. (LA VI PI IMPORTANT PASSE LAJAN/PASSE BIEN MATERIEL) . MWEN PITO POZE PASSE DADA M NAN RECHO. A set of great life lesson messages passed along in a very catchy/danceable song. Strong Djakout identity musically in this one. STRONG MESSAGES make this a very important track on the cd. That song would have been a better first single option than Lod Nan Dezod...and a video for that would have been excellent.

*JE LE JURE: Classic piano intro. This track gives the cd a nice change of pace in the spot that it's inserted. I do suspect that quite a few people will like this song and I can understand why.

*LA FWA: When I heard this song WITH NO VOCALS IN THE STUDIO before it came out, it stuck me as a song that did NOT sound/resemble Djakout. I liked the idea; but was a bit worried about how they were going to make the song work. BOOM BOOM BOOM...MWEN POZE after hearing the way the song turned out. MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE CD from the early listens....and it seems that many people seem to agree. This track has the potential to become of the biggest songs on the CD. The MESSAGE...that key word again...THE MESSAGE mixed with the kick ass music, is what will make people relate to it.

I look at this song as a cousin of Zenglen's "Rezilta"; but with this one focusing on the importance of having FAITH (La Fwa) in order to deal with all the DIFFERENT life problems that will come your way non-stop (Finance, Marital, Medical and others as illustrated by the song...YO COUVRI TOUT KA). PWOBLEM PA JANM FINI...DEPI PA GIN LA FWA. Big up to TI POUCH, STEEVE KHE, TI REGI, and SHABBA on this track. T-Pouch for composing the song, Steeve for the great vocals, Ti Regi for the inspirational words, and Shabba for adding his own brand of hot sauce to spice up the importance of the positivity of the message. (Allo Gary Pierre Paul Charles, JUST BELIEVE) PA PARET PWENT TET OU...PARET TOUT KOW....Min Compas. I keep rewinding this track over and over. BEL GOL!

MA VIE SANS TOI: Harmonika like intro catches your attention from the get go. Pouchon's vocals flow nicely on this track. This track is a typical US AGAINST THE WORLD type of song that the fans are suckers for because it hits close to home. That guitar part at the 2:30 mark...not typical guitar but will drive the song on as it is one of the catchiest on the track. "NOU PALA POU YO...NOU PAP VIV POU YO". The ballad reminds me a bit of the Djakout from the Ti Claude Marcelin days. Nice brief Shabba cameo in there "NAP TAPE YO BAW....NAP TAPE YO BAW." I really feel strongly about this song. I have a sense that it's going to......A Suivre. (Lol)

*PESEKISYON: This song I liked EVEN BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED when the guys made me listen to it in the studio. DREAD LA Pouchon is in top Djakout form on this one. AGAIN...AGAIN...AGAIN, the lyrics score on the track about people HATING ON YOU because you are SUCCESS at what you do. WO...PAPA...SIW PA FOURE BOUCH NAN PAWOL SA...SIW PA DI YON MO NAN KOSE SA (I loooooooooooooooove that chorus) and it goes quite nicely with the groove. Should have also been considered as one of the first singles to preview the CD. THIS ONE HAS HIT WRITTEN ALL OVER IT...but with so many other good songs, I hope it does not get lost in the shuffle. DJAKOUT OU MININ TWOP...BANM FE YON KOU TOU...PA KOUNIEN AN! (Sa Bel)

*SAW PRAN SE PAW: "OH OH...TET CHARJE". Bon Jan compas made for the Live circuit and radio. In the purest sense of the word, in my opinion, is the best PURE compass direct song on the CD. It is the kind of song that you can't say if it's going to be a hit or not; but you can FEEL that it will get a lot of radio airplay, and will also be a LIVE favorite. Very solid compass track nicely developed musically. Pouchon says in the song "MWEN VLE WE OU PA DANSE"...and it is almost impossible NOT to. LOL. Like he also says in the song...SI OU PAKA JWE COMPAS KONSA....AL JWE DISCO.

*MWEN MOURI: Very very very different style from Djakout. Steeve Khe's brilliant description of the event at hand makes the listener feel as if he is following a suspense movie as he takes you from the parking of his house where he sees a stranger's car, to his bedroom where the man is on his bed making love to his wife. OUCH.....GRIPPING STUFF. That kind of story hits the heart; even more so if it actually happened to the listener. The song than turns into a DANSE PLOGUE IN MISERY SONG. SE PA TI KOUT COUTO. One of my favorite songs on the CD.

*BEKE: Solid compas track. The words are funny. Should be good to hear Live. A good FEEL GOOD song.

*APPROUVE M: The beautiful intro reminds me of the American Airlines KONKOU MIZIK days. THIS IS A GEM OF A SONG about a man waiting for a girl to make him "OFFICIAL". That BANM SANTANS MWEN chorus is PURE GOLD. ANMWEYYYYY.ANMWEYYYYYYY...ANMWEYYYY. FE NWA Heaven on the dance floor.

*SEZISMAN: Interesting story talking about a man who breaks it off with his wife leaving a broken home to go link up with another lady...only to find out AFTER THE FACT, that THE LADY IS MARRIED herself. Therefore SEZISMAN. DIDI SANTANA shines on the guitar on this one, and this is also a very solid Compas track.

NOTES:
*STEEVE KHE...STEEVE KHE...STEEVE KHE. He is a breath of fresh air to Djakout. He will do for Djakout what Olivier Duret has done for T-Vice. His presence has reenergized the band and their identity. It makes them FRESHER and VERSATILE.

*This is actually the first DJAKOUT CD that I can remember the slow/mid-tempo songs outshining the uptempo songs.(Yes I know that REYALITE A was the hit song on the last CD)..but the fans usually look forward to the fast tempo tracks on any Djakout CD; but this is actually the first one in a long time where in my opinion, they will be paying extremely close attention to the slow/mid-tempo joints...because THEY ARE THAT GOOD.

*You can CLEARLY see that the group reinvented themselves on this one without forgetting the sound/style that got them where they are in terms of popularity. They gave the DJAKOUT sound a much needed musical TUNEUP and DANM...DID IT WORK.

*I like the way that they used SHABBA on this CD. They make him do a little cameo on a few songs...and NOT for too long; and then he's out. BON BAGAY.

*MISTAKE: In my opinion, after listening to the tracks on the cd, LOD NAN DEZOD should NOT have been the first song released as the preview track to announce the CD. They should have gone with either "TET FRET" or "PESEKUSYON".

*I like the way that despite STEEVE KHE's great contribution on this CD with the 4 songs that he sings (LI FE GOL AK TOU LES 4), you still SEE and SENSE that DREAD LA Duverger is still THE MAN/FACE of the band. That should NOT mess with his ego because when you pick up the CD and look at the cover, the poster, the artwork..It leaves you no doubt how much they still regard DREAD LA as a very important to the group's success. I like that move.

*In the LYRICS department, I think that TI REGI has matured on this CD. He's come of age. He did an excellent job on this one. In terms of the MUSIC on the CD, T-POUCH sure took it upon himself to deliver the goods by basically being the main composer on 7 of the 12 songs. EL SENOR put in some work on this one with good results. Shabba remains Shabba...that extra spice needed to make the food taste better.

*BEST PURE COMPAS SONG on the CD: "Sa w Pran Se Pa w"

*FAVORITE SONGS: "La Fwa", "Pesekution", "Aprouve m", "Mwen Mouri", "Libre D'aimer", and "Tet Fret".

*HITS POTENTIAL: It's never a good thing to predict a hit because the PUBLIC can make you look stupid because of their unpredictability. I thought PREMYE LO was going to be the big SLOW JAM hit off the last Djakout CD; it turned out to be REYALITE A. You go figure. Having said that, If I was asked to bet on the POSSIBLE hit songs, I would put money on "LIBRE D'AIMER", "PESEKUSION", "LA FWA", "TET FRET", MA VIE SAN TOI". I am so TEMPTED to also ADD 2 of my favorite songs on the CD in "APPROUVEM" and "MWEN MOURI"...but I sense that the majority of the fans USUALLY don't go for the most beautiful songs; rather than for SA KI MACHE NAN SAN YO AN in terms of grooves.

*ONE OF MY FAVORITE DJAKOUT CDS in their catalog WITHOUT A DOUBT. SI plak DJAKOUT sa pa fe impact and does not put the band up higher in the HMI ladder...I won't know what to think. ALL EYES are on their producer T-PAUL DEMESMIN to see if he will back this CD with PROMOTION; or if he instead is more interested in PROMOTING HIMSELF more than the CD. People are watching. DEMESMIN knows that in the promotion department, for this CD to blow up, he needs to PA PARET PWENT TET OU....PARET TOUT KOW.

*LAST WORD: SI YON MOUN PA RINMIN CD SA, or most of the songs on it.......You need to check your music/compas pulse to see if it's still working properly. When a wave is starting, you can feel it; and it is really moving in a positive direction in terms of the feedback that this one is starting to gather. Try it out and see if you like it. It's an almost guarantee that you will APPROVE. KOMPA MAGAZINE APPROUVE CD SA....BIG TIME!

KM!

Very good review, Pat!
Djakout has enough to go right to the top. Djakout are usually their own enemy and seem to always find a way to mess up. I hope this time they stay focused and disciplined.
Good luck Djakout!
