 |

____________________________________________________________
ANOUCE JOACHIM of Radios Pyramide/Inter/Nago in New York was at the LABOR DAY FESTIVAL. He gave us this BAND BY BAND report.
Read it below
He says IN ORDER OF BEST PERFORMANCE is how he wrote this report.
Best performance being 1.
Good morning Pat.
First of all I would like to congratulate Venus Production for putting together two very successful back to back shows. In my humble opinion about the pre Labor day fest, I personally think it was a great show that in the beginning I thought was going to be a failure because when I arrived at the park around 6pm, There were only a handful of people in attendance. To my surprise, by the end of the show it was a full house.
In terms of performance:
1- T-Vice: They gave a top notch performance because when it come to festivals, T-Vice has what it takes to move a crowd. They open the show with "Ma cherie je t'aime" followed by "epi'm pa bon" which woke up the crowd who was sleeping during the previous performances. They followed "epi'm pa bon" with a medley of their successful carnival meringues which rock the crowd even more who was hungry for excitement. An gwo nou ka di T-Vice te bon anpil nan festival la.
2-Nu Look: After an outstanding performance the night before at Amazura, Nu Look did not cease to amaze people with a continuation of their amazing performance from the night before. I finally understand what Arly really meant when he said "I got this" and this weekend he proved that he really got it. The advantage Nu Look has over a lot of other bands who also perform at the festival is the fact that they have a very rich catalog in their repertoire. One of Arly's success also has a lot to do with the fact that he is surrounded by a bunch of talented musicians. For example Norman the Bass player. G. Laporte. Roro Irene etc. Arly has always been one the best dress performer compare to others who respected the principle of performing for a paying public.
3-Tabou Combo: Even though the park was half full when they came on stage but they did what Tabou has always been doing at any festival which is deliver good Kompa music. The young ad the old responded to Tabou as if Tabou was a new generation band. To me playing second was a lack of disrespect for Tabou who has proven for 46 years that they are the best band on a global standpoint. Tabou toujou rete yon mega force nan konpa direk la.
4-Disip: To be honest, Disip is a very good kompa band and they proved that at the festival yesterday. They delivered a solid performance but they were the victim of lack of success with some of their song choices for the festival. Their most successful song of the festival was a snippet of "Madan'm mwen" and "Leader".
5-Carimi: You can't have a festival without Carimi in your lineup because they will bring people out. However, The Carimi that we all know of, did deliver a good performance but not a solid one compared to past festivals. Carimi te bon min yo pat "pi" bon.
6-Klass: Because of the success with their first album, they think they are on the same level with other bands like Djakout, T-Vice, Carimi in terms of festival. But, they are a band with only one album and they have yet to reach that level. After What had happen at Amazura the night before, most people was expecting Klass to make up for their disappointment the previous night. They were one of the bands with the most time to perform however, they utilize their time to throw jabs at Arly instead of making up for their failure the night before. An plis yo toujou ap plenyen de tan yo bayo epoutan se yo ki pa konn jere tan, helas!
7-Phantoms: They were a last addition to the festival which makes a lot of people happy because Phantoms is one of the show stoppers in past festivals history. However, Phantoms was over prepared but did not get enough time to deliver what everyone was expected of them. To me, one of the mistake from the Phantoms camp is starting the Show with "14 Fevrier" which was one of their most successful song. The Phantoms camp should have realize that with lack of time, the Barbershop sketch was very unnecessary. Kino should have come out with a bagging song like "Pa bouje". All in all we were very happy to see them back together and hoping that they are here to stay because NY is in dire need of another band of Phantoms caliber.
8-Karizma/Cruz La: Karizma did get their chance to show the NY public what they have to offer but because of time management under a lot of pressure, they were able to deliver 1 song from their upcoming "Virus" album. They did not make any impact but in my humble opinion, if they can stay together they will be a very successful band in the NYC area.
On the other hand Cruz La did not get to finish their first song because according to reliable sources, there were another event happening in the park as well whereas the park authorities had ask Jean Raymond who never disappoint in with the sound to keep the sound level lower for 15 minutes to avoid a conflict. However the Cruz La camp with their lack of maturity did not want to continue their set under those circumstances so they decided to exit the stage without finishing their first set which i think will probably affect them in the long run.
Djakout #1: Victim of time management as always. On the other hand it's time the Djakout Camp realize that they don't always have to close out a festival because a lot of people came to see Djakout but when they don't get to see their favorite band, they might lose interest in the years to come. _________________ phpbb:echo dicks;

I dunno what ppl were listen to but the quality was very poor. No band put on a great performance. Did he listen to T-Vice 1st track. The band was all over
the place.
NL was solid but not great
Klass has a horrible sound during the 1st song. They used this time jamming to fix the sound. U can see the different during the last song. What Jab Klass took at NL?
I understand they want to put the NY band in prime but Karizma show they don't deserve it. I know they didn't have much time but still
Phantoms waste my time. I was tired as hell after witnessing NL tearing Klass apart the night before. They don't deserve to clause the festival.
On a final note, people left furious when they found out Djakout wasn't playing. They stay just to see Djakout. Also the bands need to play better. |
