 |
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you look through the KDANS catalog and go check out the credits, you will see that GLENNY BENOIT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT "HIT MAKER" from the group. A lot of the best songs or hits from the group were signed GLENNY BENOIT.
Having said that; looking at Glenny right now and the role that he fulfills with CARIMI...you simply would never know or think that this talented individual had such a strong musical resume. WHY? Because GLENNY's musical stock in the song composer's department has gone down....because we don't HEAR anything of significance from the artist in his CARIMI role. Is it by CHOICE; or is it that his style of music/composing does NOT fit the Carimi "brand" musically? Whatever the reason, it is simply a mystery as to how a very talented composer would simply disappear from the scene like that...simply happy with just earning a guaranteed paycheck every week because of the group's popularity?
Is it GLENNY that is selling himself short and has become lazy in the songwriting department; or is it that CARIMI sees no need for him to give them any songs on their CD because they already have a formula that is working with the compositions of both of their composers, as well as the Unofficial 5th Carimi member after the 4 owners.....MIKABEN. The last time we can remember a contribution of major significance from Glenny on a CARIMI CD was from the song "SE LA M PRALE". We're not sure how much he had to do with the track, but we know that he was involved somehow based on what the group told me years ago.
Is GLENNY BENOIT just happy to just CHILL, drop some guitar licks LIVE in the band, as long as he is guaranteed a weekly paycheck from CARIMI due to the group's popularity? You certainly CAN'T fault him for that...because after all THE BILLS HAVE TO BE PAID. If YOU had a choice of being seen as one of the best composers in the business....MAKING NO MONEY WITH A BAND (KDANS towards the end struggled financially), or just being seen as a replaceable part of a popular group...as long as your money keeps coming in...I AM SURE THAT MOST OF YOU WOULD PICK THE SAFETY OF THE BILLS BEING PAID. Having said that, in the process, GLENNY BENOIT's stock has FALLEN as a COMPOSER/HIT MAKER in CARIMI; and for the HMI....it is NOT a good thing.
GLENNY has left so many memories in people's minds with many of those hits he wrote for KDANS, and those will be cherished for a lifetime by many. YES...IN KDANS, Glenny was a BIGGER STAR than Mickael, Carlo...and also Richard of Carimi...even though Richard at the time was not an official member of Kdans. The GLENNY BENOIT of TODAY is NOWHERE NEAR the GLENNY BENOIT of the KDANS days in every sense of the word. STOCK GLENNY AS A COMPOSER TONBE...BUT HIS POCKETS ARE "steadier" and pays the bills and at his age right now....that is more important.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Even if GLENNY's compositions might not fit the CARIMI "brand"; I wonder how it would work if on every CARIMI album, the group would allow him to give them 1 or 2 compositions...which would bring something DIFFERENT to the CARIMI table. A "Pure" GLENNY BENOIT style of song WITH STRICTLY HIS MUSICAL FLAVOR....could that bring something that might attract "other fans" that might not be into Carimi? I've been asking myself that same question for some time.
GLENNY BENOIT COMPOSER....YOU WERE A KICK ASS composer back in the days bro. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? WHERE IS "THAT" Glenny Benoit today? I'm just a fan asking on behalf of the many who must be wondering the same thing.
Those of you who don't know what I am talking about.....JUST GRAB A FEW KDANS albums and YOUR PROOF IS RIGHT THERE!

There is no excuse for him to stop composing songs. If the CARIMI guys don't like his songs, he should try to sell them to other artists. In the AMI, song writers make tons of money just by doing that. I have no doubt in my mind that he is still writing songs. If the price is right, some artists will be willing to buy his songs. Maybe I should start a business of buying songs and resale them.... _________________ An obstacle is often an unrecognized opportunity. |

Se pa manti. Mwen gen tout CD K-Dans yo; te gen anpil bèl konpozisyon sou yo vrèman. Se yon djaz mwen te renmen tande anpil. Kout gita Glenny yo te trè "groovy" nan K-Dans.

Carimi = Miami Heat (James, Wade and Bosh)
Glenny = Ray Allen.

Bon eske misye di li pa kontan mezanmi...LOL
The way I see it....this actually works in Glenny's favor...you are a "poto mitan" in arguably the most successful (money/touring-wise) band of this generation..which means that you are doing OK with your bills.
Once the ride is over or your passion for touring all over is gone....open up your studio and compose and produce for others.
Theres no age limit or physical toll on composing so he can do that for as long as he likes.
Plus their is a demand for him...so misye ap bien fe'l wi la |

IF carimi's last 2 album is any indication, we might never get to see the great glenny of K-dans again. I mean the guy didn't have a single "solo" on the last album , Not even ONE!
Carimi's success has very little to do with Glenny... so I can understand his complacency.
On a side note, Glenny and Loulou are probably the least evolved players in a major band right now. _________________ It's all about Love. |
