 |
|
Here is the OFFICIAL song by song KOMPA MAGAZINE CD REVIEW of GAZZMAN DISIP'S NEW CD "VIKTWA"!
*LEADER: The lyrics to this song creates the appeal of the song. People are wondering who Gazzman is talking to. Is it Arly? Is it Richie? It is also a different type of Compas that the hardcore Gazzman fans are used to from him, so that right there might take a little time before these fans digest this track. I can guarantee you that once these fans give it a couple of listens and start getting used to it, they will vibe to it because it is a great track. PEEP THE GUITAR WORK ON THAT TRACK...DANM! Make no bones about it, there is some good compas brewing on that track from the guitar to the keyboards.
On another note, Gazzman drops too many shoutouts on this one song...Couleur, put the list in your hands away bro. That "RELE LEADER A" part with the guitar is a nice catchy CALL AND CHANT that will stick to the fans' heads. The bottom line is it depends on how the LIVE version of the song appeals to the masses, as well as if the group pushes the song with a music video. Good song with a good vibe/groove, and catchy lyrics. The fans will have to make the call on this one. I really feel that if the song is given a chance, and not dismissed by the listeners, it will do well for Gazzman and Disip.
*POUKISA featuring RICHARD CAVE: This is a song that can deliver a HUGE HIT for the cd, as well as open the doors to another fan base for Gazzman. This is the song that kept me on that rewind button for WEEKS. Yes...I said "Weeks". Great delivery from both vocalists, and the mellow song is catchy and also tugs at the heart. When it switches in the middle of the track to a more groovy jam with the introduction of JAM O P's keyboard, that seals the deal right there. GAZZMAN will be a fool if he does not push this song to the max. I think COULEUR is already sold because when I first got the cd, this was THE song that Gazzman was more eager for me to listen to.....Now I can see why. HIT..HIT...HIT...But the artist MUST PUSH THIS ONE hard to let the fans know...CHECK ME OUT ON THIS ONE. GADON MIZIK JESUSSSSSSS! PS: If you do a video for this song, Gazzman must display the lyrics to the song ON THE VIDEO somewhere....very important in my opinion.
*VIKTWA: This is the type of uptempo compas that the GAZZMAN/DISIP fans are expecting from "LEADER A". I like the positivity in terms of the lyrics for this song. I personally think this should have been the kickoff track on the cd...in order not to put the hardcore fans in shock with the slight turn of Compas flavor on Leader. Engaging melody/chorus and dancefloor ready. This is the kind of song that should do well at bals if the band plays it well to sell it. Nice guitar solo by Mackenson on this one. TI HARRY BRASSEUR gets a rap turn on this track, and he does a good job. BANM TET MWEN PLEASE (One of the best vocal liners on the cd....will get its shine). I like this track quite a lot.
*FOREVER: This is the first song that I went straight to when I first got the cd, until Gazzman persuaded me to put it on pause and give number 2 a try. As soon as I heard it the first time, I knew that he had a winner right there with that track. It seems as if producer Shedley Abraham has the "formula" that can quite fit COULEUR in that mid-range tempo style. If you loved "Sexy Love", you are going to love this one possibly even more. Positive love lyrics, mixed with a very danceable and catchy groove that will get those hips moving on the dance floor..and voices singing. Couples that are in love...are SUCKERS for POSITIVE LOVE SONGS/VIBES. This one will do great damage at the DJ Parties as well as bals. I am so tempted to call this one a HIT song, but I still want to wait and see how much of a push Gazzman is going to give this song. It is one of our favorite tracks on the cd.
*BANM BAGAY LA featuring TI JOE ZENNY: Funny topic about the ladies, or for lack of a better word, an hommage to "Ladies who love Musicians"...are they talking about regular ladies or are they talking about dare we say GROUPIES? (Lol). 2 FAWOUCHEURS on the microphone, funny topic, crazy grooves, it has all the ingredients to make it work. What also caught my attention on this one was the HORN work. "CHERI BANM BAGAY LA...Superstar Banm Bagay La". Will this be a song to decorate the cd, or will there also be a music video? Will the band be able to play it at bals without it losing the appeal brought on by Ti Joe teaming up with Couleur? Many questions surrounding this; but there is no doubt that it is one of the funniest tracks on the cd. The 2 superstar billing also will help a lot.
*MADANM MWEN MET PA BON: One of the most SOULFUL vocals by Gazzman on the cd. The first part of the song is simply a joy to listen to from the music to the vocals, to the lyrics. PA PALE PA DI YON MO..RETE KE KAL. PA PALE PA DI YON MO...Love that part. It has a nice keyboard melody that carries the song (The part where Gazzman says Zagalo...zanmi an pral fache). Where the song might suffer a bit is when the group tries to make it a funny track instead of keeping it the way that they had started it. That "LAP FE MANJE...LA BANM TI MOSSO" part you feel minimizes the importance of the words that were said earlier in the song....and that in turn might make some not take the song as seriously as they should. I also feel it is a bit too long on the cd in terms of duration/time.
Having said that, this track is one of my favorites on the cd, and it will do very well at bals. I can't get enough of that keyboard. I FREAKING LOVE THE WAY GAZZMAN SINGS THIS SONG....."Pure SOUL". His BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE on the cd. I just wish the lyrics had stayed "SERIOUS" throughout the whole song.
*URGENCE: When listening to the URGENT LYRICS to this track, it is baffling why the lyrics for this song were not made available on the cd sleeves...because the things that COULEUR is singing about on this song are thought provoking. CORRUPTION AND SO MANY OTHER POINTS are touched on this one. MOUN KE YO BAY JOB LA...PA MINM KALIFYE...SE PASKEL DAKO POU'L BA'W JWE NAN KO'L. Not only that, those words are accompanied by a top of the line music. This is some SERIOUS STUFF here on this TRACK 7, and no wonder why it is already a favorite of quite a few from the cd. This is the kind of song that you LISTEN to grasp the message being put across it. OUI...MESSAJ LA PASSE like it says in the song...and LI PASSE FORT NAN MIZIK SA.
*POUR LE MEILLEUR ET POUR LE PIRE: An "us against the world type of mellow song that also incorporates the "I'LL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU" message. It has a nice feel to it, especially on the GUITARS and the CHORUS. This could become a "COUPLES" favorite. An enjoyable song that will appeal to many.
*MEN DIFERANS LA: The guitar is SICK on this track. Top of the line stuff. The kind of track that radio stations into the compas direct genre will jump on to play.
*SWEET LOVE: Nice catchy chorus at the intro with Gabel's Ti Pashou taking the lead first. STRAIGHT UP HIT POTENTIAL, and with a music video having already started filming, this "can" become a huge hit all across the board. I can't get enough of this song as I keep pushing the rewind button over and over.
*EKILIB: You either get Gazzman at his best as a "fawoucheur", or with the serious version of Couleur preaching. He has been scoring and making sure that he is seen as a serious preacher in touch with all aspects of what's going on in the world; especially with his country. We got glimpes of THAT Couleur in earlier Nu Look tracks like "Legacy" and "Youngblood" among others; and that continues here with this scorcher of a song in "Ekilib". One has to wonder if Gazzman has any political aspirations in Haiti for the future; perhaps in his hometown of Gonaives. Having said that, this is one of the most solid tracks on the entire cd.
*JUDAH: Gazzman ends the cd with this uptempo number praising his DISIP followers and telling his critics and non-followers called "Judas" to PANDYE TET OU DEVAN JAZ LA. Lol. It's clear with this song that you are either with THE LEADER, or you don't exist to him. All done in fun of course, and I like the way he goes about it. Donaldo does a great solo guitar on this track, and this is also a very friendly radio track; kind of like a DISIP ANTHEM. A fun solid compas track that adds to the CD. "Depuis 2010...MAP FE YO FE SOPERYEU". I like the musical vibe of this song....I just wish we had a couple of trademark Gazzman LAUGHS and a couple of funny verbal jabs in there to show all that IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS with the message he is sending in the song. Antouka...BON MUSICAL VIBE.
_________________________
*MY FAVORITE SONGS: Poukisa, Forever, Madanm Mwen Met Pa Bon, Sweet Love, Leader, Urgence...and I am tempted to add more.
*HIT POTENTIAL: Poukisa, Forever, Leader, Sweet Love...and I have a hunch about the Ti Joe song, but I just don't think Gazz will push that one much.
*AN ISSUE: There are a couple of songs on there that Gazzman could have kept for the next cd in order to keep this cd at 10 songs maximum because they don't really bring anything "extra" to the table...except that they are solid songs...nevertheless..what's done is done as it only gives you more songs on the menu.
*BOTTOM LINE: Despite the fact that Gazzman worked with several producers on this cd, you don't really see a huge difference in terms of the musical identity being affected. Disip does not really have a signature "sound"...except that GAZZMAN'S VOICE is DISIP, and that alone is enough to resolve any concerns.
GAZZMAN GIN NAN MIN LI...and I am standing 100% behind what I am saying. Whoever says that this Gazzman Disip cd is not good...YO MECHAN and way off the mark. The artist has STRONG MATERIAL to do work with for his group DISIP. Gazzman needs to suck it up, believe in himself and the cd, and do what he has to do to bring the material to the masses....POU YO JWEN MESSAJ LA. I liked the debut cd, but it is nothing compared to this one. GAZZMAN COULEUR HAS A WINNER IN HIS HANDS, all he needs to do is worry about "HIM and HIS GROUP", and not what others are doing....and he should be fine. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED on this CD in my opinion.

Définitivement c'est un autre DISIP que j'entends avec ce nouvel album, très tendance et beaucoup plus commerciale,
POUKISA, VIKTWA, FOREVER, MEN DIFERANS LA, SWEET LOVE, EKILIB, mais surtout JJJJUUUUDDDAAAAHHHHH !!!!
Loooooool
RDV A PARIS LE 10 NOVEMBRE 2013 prochain !!!! |

Mwen toujou di nan fowòm sa ke Gazzman se pi gwo vedèt sou sèn mizikal ayisyen an. Ak yon albòm tèt chat Gazzman fè plis pase de lane l ap mennen. Okenn lòt djazz paka fè yon bagay konsa. Arly ka fè bèl mizik jan l vle, men pa gen Nu Look san Gazzman. Si Carimi lage an granmoun, enben se Defèt nèt pou Koulè a. Se pam Koulè a ye men li pa gen anyen la pou l fè lòbèy. Ann antann nou. An reyalite, se lari a ki pou l bay vèdik final la.
Ann gade kouman lari a jwenn nouvèl ke Gazz ap vann deyò a. Ann gade sa ! |
