 |
|
*KALE KO'W: Kickoff song is a T-Vice fans plea to "REPRESENT" FOR THE BAND and show themselves. They are talking or should I say "Bigging UP" the band. Uptempo track that will do well at bals for their fans. At the 3:02 mark when the guitar and back and forth "Kale Ko'w" chant comes in, is when the song shifts into overdrive mode and gets you in the groove. The critics will find ammunition here by claiming that it sounds too close to their rivals Djakout during that part..down to even the way that T-Tanbou does the hype part; but that won't stop the song from getting people on the dance floor. Roberto subscribes to the cd salute bandwagon of sending several shoutouts to some of the promoters supporting the band towards the end. Having said that, this is a BAL joint that will do the job.
*SE PA'W MWEN YE (with Alan Cave): HIT...HIT...HIT. Did I say HIT? Potential to be a MEGA HIT. The ONLY people that can stand in the way of this song NOT becoming a huge hit is none other than T-VICE themselves. Why? T-Vice has a habit of ignoring the songs that the fans want, only to push the songs that THEY want YOU to TAKE. That will be a big mistake if they do it with this one. Bands don't go in their backyards to shake a tree for hits to drop down on the floor anymore. LE OU GIN YON ZA'M KI GARANTI...OU SEVI AVEK LI as soon as possible. Very catchy from the first note to the last note. Nothing complicated. A Baby to young kids can even sing this song word for word..such is the arrangement.
ALAN CAVE and ROBERTO combine really well on this one....and no I am not putting Roberto on the same level vocally as Alan; but he represents well, especially in his last verse of the track (Reminds me a bit of his vocals on INNOCENT). Alan's vocals are UNMATCHED in this HMI when he is singing a catchy slow/mid-tempo song. Reynaldo Martino told me back in May that this would become a MEGA HIT in the HMI, when he gave me a preview of the cd, and I totally agree...but T-VICE HAS TO PUSH IT HARD! It is THEIR song even if ALAN Cave is on there. They are the ones who will play it LIVE and reap all or most the benefits from it. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST T-VICE MUSIC VIDEO IN MY OPINION. Hit Hit Hit Hit.
Can you tell how much I believe in this song? That song kept my hand on the repeat mode for 2 weeks straight after I got the cd from T-Vice. Enough Said. Hopefully they don't wait until PEP LA PA SOU BO MIZIK LA to try and do the video for it. MWEN FI'N PALE.
*RESAN: The video released this past week will do wonders for this "SLOGAN" driven track. Strong message in this song based on their many years of experience. The slogan WILL stay "ALAMOD" even more after this T-Vice touch. Will do very well at parties in my opinion, and if radio backs it up, it will do well for the band as well. Was NOT my ideal choice to be pushed as the first music video off the cd;but takes nothing away from a brilliantly produced video.
*LAKAY SE LAKAY: This is what you call a "KLERIN" song. As soon as I heard the MUSIC, I already started imagining the song playing at get togethers/private parties and setting off good vibes. This style falls along the lines of the same style of "Bidi Bidi Banm Banm", and "Confession" at the beginning, but then switches at around the 2:20 mark. THIS SONG WILL WORK because I have witnessed the potential of it at their LIVE parties. OLD T-VICE STYLE/GROOVE with one of Reynaldo's catchiest keyboard notes on the cd. Positive message as well on the track. SICK GROOVE KEYBOARD carries this track no doubt. Will be one of the favorites for the fans on the bal circuit.
*MA CHERIE JE T'AIME: As soon as I heard this track for the very first time I CALLED IT as a potential hit. My ears did not deceive me as it is one of the songs that are most well received at T-VICE recent parties that I have witnessed. All the ladies and fellas singing the chorus word for word. That is when you know you are on to something good. WILL T-VICE PUSH THIS HARD? Only THEY know. Olivier Duret delivers on this track. Simple/Catchy and very danceable "Ploge" song. GOL...GOL...GOL with this song.
*OU PA GIN ZEN SA NAN MIN'W: Uptempo track with a funny story in there. It will do well at parties in terms of feel good vibes. T-Tanbou does another animation on this track. Just by looking at the song title, it makes you want to check out what the song is about...Good LIVE ambiance track to liven up a dance floor at parties.
*MANVI GATE'W: The song that T-VICE has been pushing the most on the cd based on what I have seen. They've played the track twice at parties on a couple of occasions, and I have been told it is to satisfy a demand for the track. HUGE HIT POTENTIAL. The keyboard melody on this track is sick as well as the instrumentation. "NAN SUITE PRESIDENTIELLE LA...NOU PRAL FE LOBEY", or "NAP RIVE MONACO SUR LE PLUS GRAND BATO...PRINCESSE LA PRAL JALOUSE....PRAL MANDE KIYES SA" are just two one of the lines that will please many of the ladies listening to this track, and have the guys cracking up. It is a funny track showing to what extent that a guy will go to please a young lady. MIZIK SA BIEN BALANCE and it is one of the gems on this CD, and it is no wonder it seems to be one of the first songs that the fans have embraced the most in the early going.
*M'AP TUIP: Cool track with some good stuff in there. Having said that, it will suffer the same fate as "Pou Mwen Seul" from the last CD....which is after a couple of bals of the group playing it...YAP COOL OFF SOU MIZIK LA. Song in my opinion was brought in to add a different flavor to the cd...nothing more and nothing less. Nevertheless...it is a cool song that captures the vibe of FLANNEURS AYITIENS YO
*ALL ABOUT YOU: What a beautiful intro. It pulls you in from the first note. One of the best songs on the cd that has huge potential to work very well on the radio and at parties. Roberto and Olivier on the vocals again anko. A song stealing keyboard solo from DWET CELESTE LA Nickenson Prudhomme. A Song that despite being all the way down towards the end of the cd...WILL GET NOTICED! SI YO TE METE MIZIK SA as the third song...SANBLE MWEN TAP FENK COMMENCE on "REWIND MODE". That would have been the ideal position to put THIS song. HIT POTENTIAL.
*FE JE'M PLEZI: I have been raving about this song ever since KM shared the preview with the world before the cd came out. It still has the same effect on me as it did back then. LI MACHE NAN TOUT SAN'M. It is very easy to dance, learn the words to and more. I feel they should have added more of that "MWEN TONBE" part that they have at the end of the song than what they did, and also some at the beginning....but it still works. A KM favorite on the cd as well. "MANMAN MARIE...DI YON MO POU MWEN."

*BREAKDOWN: RESAN CD is a very good T-VICE CD. You will get typical T-VICE formula songs that you've heard from their catalog before (Signature sound), and you will also get them trying out new stuff to expand their fan base. Will it make the fans forget about the classic "Kite'm Viv"? NO; but it is still a very good cd with some songs that have potential to become hits...and a MEGA HIT potential song.
*HIT POTENTIAL SONGS: In my opinion I would go with "Se Pa'w Mwen Ye" (Mega Hit Potential), "All About You", "Manvi Gate'w", "Ma Cherie Je T'aime", and "Fe Je'm Plezi". I am talking about PUSH THE REWIND BUTTON tracks here.
*FALSE MOVE:
A) I would have added "All about You" as the 3rd song right after "Se Pa'w Mwen Ye" instead of burying it all the way at the end of the cd. You know how our fans buying cds at record stores like to judge tracks by what the first few tracks on the cd are.
B) I also think that with all the songs that the group have on the cd to make a huge impact, they could have gone with another song instead of "Resan" as the first music video to push. They still could have dropped the video for "Resan" later on in the campaign. THERE IS NO RULE that says that you must push an uptempo song as a first single just because it is Summer time.
C) While I like and embrace the group's effort to try something new for them of having T-Tanbou do the hype parts on a couple of songs (Well done by the way); they also leave themselves open to their fiercest critics to talk a little trash by saying "Djakout".
*OBSERVATION: T-VICE has for so many years has been known as an UPTEMPO type of band, but I am ready to declare today that their slow/mid-tempo songs have been getting the best songs/reception for the past few cds. IN MY OPINION, their slow/mid-tempo songs for the past couple of cds have been very very IMPRESSIVE. DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE SEEN AS A BAND with such a tag VICE LA. You have so many years in the business that your "Party Band" legacy is sealed, so yes, you can embrace it if you become known as a band with nice slow/mid-tempo jams.
The KEYBOARD melody for "Manvi Gate'w" and "Lakay Se Lakay" will be HUGE on the LIVE scene at their parties. SONJE MWEN DI NOU SA!
T-VICE is THE ONLY ONE who can mess up the potential of this cd in the way that they decide to push/promote it like I said earlier. T-VICE has to get on the ball and decide to push WHAT THE FANS WANT THE MOST instead of what T-VICE wants the fans to digest first. You have the material on the cd to do damage...don't drop the ball. VERY SOLID CD with HIT POTENTIAL SONGS once again from T-VICE. KM APPROVED WITHOUT A DOUBT!

Great piece Pat. I must say this album doesn't do it 4 me. Manvi gate'w & fè jem plezi are my favorites. Other than that, I don't think is solid cd. |

Thanks for the review Pat.
My favorites of the CD are SE PAW MWEN YE, MWEN ANVI GATEW, CHERIE JE T'AIME. I have seen TVICE twice after the release of the CD. Both times TVICE played last. So I have not gotten the chance to hear all the songs live.
The songs that I mentioned above received warm reception from the crowd.
Good Luck to the Vice crew with the CD. SO far they are doing a good job marketing the CD _________________ Kite'l mache |
