BRUTUS told KOMPA MAGAZINE the following in regards to them releasing a kanaval meringue.

BRUTUS: "I see no reason for ZENGLEN to release a kanaval IF you are not able to have a door open in order for you to go on a float SOU BETON AN. I think the government should have some sort of CONTEST where they invite bands to release their kanavals, and then from there, the best ones are picked and then given a float as some sort of reward for their achievement. It makes no sense to release one...spend money, and then 1 month later, the song is of no use to you and your business.

Bands want to be SOU BETON AN for kanaval, and until the government or the minister of culture finds a solution to reward those with the best meringues with a float SOU BETON AN...ZENGLEN will not be releasing any kanaval meringues. IF THERE IS A FAIR CONTEST FOR BANDS TO SUBMIT THEIR KANAVALS, Zenglen would be one of the first bands to release a kanaval for that purpose. NOU KON'N SA NOU KA FE NAN AFE EKRI KANAVAL. Zenglen came out twice already, one time in 1991 around the FIDEL CD period, and we did very well. The last time was around the DO IT RIGHT period, and we did not do so well because of instrument/delco issues...even though we had a lot of sponsors backing us up because they knew of our potential."

That's my take on that too...
A KWA BON....but some people don't see it that way...some see it as an opportunity to have their song heard...King Possee Boukman and others had their big break from a carnival song...but bands like Zenglen -Disip and others already are out there so unless there is a special invitation or a real contest where they will choose the best....there is no need for them to do a carnival...Tabou - System - Skah Shah all did great without yearly carnival songs...yes it is a waste of time and money...for a song that will never be played after the carnival period...
