@ BK Zone... with all due respect... Have you been to a Rafrechi party.? Have you been to a Rafrechi event in NY? Have you been to a Rafrechi event in MD? If you answer "NO" to any of these questions, then maybe you should do a little research...
As Staff stated, Rafrechi has played with many reputable bands in the HMI... (Please feel free to re-read the first post on this topic...) Thus understanding that Rafrechi has gained much experience in the business...
Rafrechi is a solid band with a lot to offer to the HMI...
Check the guys out before you attempt to ridicule the group... You might have a change of heart.
Respect to you bro...
epi kitel mache... |
Neg la mande eske yo gen HIT? Eske yo gen mizik kap mache?
T-vice, Carimi, Djakout and others didn't become "gro djazz" overnight. They worked for it and have many hit songs to become "gro djazz." |
Like you said they WORKED FOR IT....The subject of this post was to show a band that is WORKING for it....
Roro said in an interview that Djakout use to play for Tab ak Chèz (tables and chairs)....In the new Tropicana documentary (that Mario de Volcy gave me last week when I was in N.Y) one of the old cats said that when Tropic was playing other promoters use to come to their shows to borrow the tables and chairs for other parties....but THEY WORKED for what they have today...RIGHT...
This is to show you that not all bands made it because they have an INSTANT HIT....THEY WORKED and then they got it....
Did you know that at some point the owners of Bossa Combo hired the musicians of Caribbean Sextet to mentor the musicians of Bossa....but Bossa came out and find their own working formula and eventually grow large in the business.
Anpil gwo diaz te Ti diaz at some point...Not every band is a KONPA KREYOL...or a CARIMI...those bands were F.T.B (FET TOU BON)....most bands paid a heavy price of not having a hit in the early days....
Frères Déjean came out in 1963...they only find their first hit...some 12 years later...
Now do you know that there are a lot of hit songs out there but they just are not hits because you don't hear them on the radio or from your DJ....
Do you remember the song OU PATI by Michael Benjamin....No one cares for it or better yet the world didn't know about it nor the author/singer until Fabrice Rouzier used the song in the Haiti Twoubadou project....And...you know the rest of the story...RIGHT....This is to tell you that from that Rafrechi album...there could be something big that is just not in the proper channel....
In today's business...a hit is considered a song that is occupying a major space in the airwaves and being played constantly by our DJs...Now considering that standard...One can make any song in their album a hit in only a couple of weeks....MEZI LAJAN'W MEZI WANGA'W....nan ti makèt sa....
Once again the purpose of this post was to show that among all the T. Jazz there is one that is ON THE MOVE..even if it's not in your neck of the hood.
In all honesty (IN ALL HONESTY) Did you ever take the time to listen to the Rafrechi album and draw your own assessment and not considering the fact that the songs are not being played all over because the band just don't have the resources to buy its way....
There are some bands that are playing 4 times a week...lajen la wi boss papa...si'w pa tande yo se yok pa vle...I'm sure you heard the story of PAZ and NU LOOK....Once again MEZI LAJAN'W MEZI WANGA'W...No need to say more... _________________ Did you read your "Konpa Encyclopedia" today... |

Wap jwenn li wi pam lan......
Guen voye chèche/demade epi guen al trip, al pase vakans while tagging along tou wi Boss Papa...
Oh by the way, one more NON-HAITIAN promoter is talking about putting the band at another international show on August 13..."DID YOU SAY STOCK?".
Many people are talking about crossing over...but Rafrechi has been bringing the Konpa to many non Haitians right here in America for the past year while many are catering to the same fans over and over....Well if that doesn't mean much, then let's not talk about crossing jack or do some people think that crossing over should be made by their favorite bands only... At least Rafrechi is putting some small stones into the construction of the bridge...What are others doing?
At this point, I take the liberty to say that more non Haitians know about Rafrechi's album than the albums of some of what we know as the most popular Haitian bands...Why because they are very comfortable to play for the same people at the same locations all the time:THE COMPAS HOTBEDS...
How many band managers are aware of other music festivals in their towns besides the regular Konpa Festivals...How many are taking the steps that Rafrechi is taking....
Before we had KM and other social networks to share the music news....I use to play in a band called ZEPON...the band played for many Non Haitians....Feel free to ask Fabrice Rouzier...he was the keyboard player at some point...My dream is for Rafrechi to go that route as well...and we are on the right track so far...because the demands are increasing.
Every artist reserve the right to be the Ambassador of their own culture...there is no rule written on any stone that says that the name should be T.VICE - CARIMI- or TABOU COMBO... _________________ Did you read your "Konpa Encyclopedia" today... |
