"Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate the Resurrection (Sunday's represents a "mini-Easter" celebration of the Jesus victory over sin & death). Lent begins on 9 March 2011 and ends on 23 April 2011, which is the day before Easter. In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent officially ends at sundown on 21 April (Holy Thursday), with the beginning of the mass of the Lord’s Supper.
Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or volunteering and giving of themselves for others. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan.
I don't know how many of you participate in LENT. It begins this Wednesday and as stated above, one gives up something, anything for 40 days. So just wondering if anyone have plans on observing this Lent Season.. and if so, what are you giving up?... or Has anyone participated in the past? What did you give up and did you push through the entire 40 day period...
This is discipline at its best... This year its ON.. Deliver me NOT into temptation... _________________ Walk With Faith... Not Fear... Free Yourself.. "The Vision" |

EY,
What are you planning on giving up?
When I was a kid, my parents used to give up meat, they would only eat seafood (no meat) during those 40 days.
I have not done it for over 15 years. But if I had to give up something now, as hard as that could be, it would have been SEX. No sex for 40 days. _________________ The views/opinions that I express on KM are strictly and solely those of MINGOLOVE, the HMEI personality, and should not be associated in any way with my membership in any other fields nor be held against me in any matter not related to entertainment. |

In my neck of the woods we give up meat on Fridays and have seafood or whatever. I used to give up things in the past but I'm not as devout as I used to be. I'll just stick to the Friday no meat thing And oh yeah Good Friday no partying _________________ "Mwen di non, AYITI PAP KRAZE!!!!" |

Sex huh??? Think you can do it??? M'pa kwe!
Question.. if someone gives up sex, is it just the ACT of... or ALL Sexual Activities... for example: one gives up Sex but does that mean one must give up Kissing, Touching, Sucking.. okay fine.. anything that doesn't pertain to "penetration"... Just wondering seriously or is that personal choice on what giving up "Sex" entails??? Again just wondering
Okay I've decided to give up:
Potatoes.. French Fries.. (I try every year and fail miserably)
Rice.... a hard choice for a Haitian but I have it all planned. I'll replace Rice with Salad. SMILE. Im determined to push through 40days!
Stacy's Pita Chips (Sea Salt).. Those chips will be the DEATH of me.. Yep. 40 days.. I can do it... with fingers & zotey's crossed. Eeeks!
and finally No SHOE purchases for 40 days!
I thought long and hard of my choices since last week. Im ready for this commitment.. This will definitely give me a jump start to better health.. and my shoe addiction simply needs to stop. Like for real. I eat & shop with my eyes & not the reality of my belly fat or my pockets. No Bueno... _________________ Walk With Faith... Not Fear... Free Yourself.. "The Vision" |

Lent use to be a stricter for Catholics in the past.
But in recent years it has become more and more lenient.
First it use to be something like ramadan where you fast during the day hours and eat at sun set sor 40 days.
Then it changed to only giving up meat for 40 days.
Then that changed to just giving up meat on Fridays.
THey also encourage you to giv eup something that you are very attached to for 40 days.
When I use to be Catholic our household use to observe lent strictly.
When I was a kid one year I decided that I would give up PATE.
That didn't last very long.... maybe about two weeks.
In College I had a roommate who observed lent strictly as well. _________________ A man who has taken possession of his own mind may take possession of anything else to which he is justly entitled_ Carnegie |

PATE.... what is that? I think I know but just wanted confirmation if Im right...
My Uncle states that when you sacrifice, the time you would have spent doing whatever you chose to sacrifice, you should replace it with prayer.
