 |
|
For almost a century, we Haitians have been involved in soccer, but until now we can't say that we have some millionaires from playing that game.
Don't get me wrong I love the game and many of you know that I played most of my life both in Haiti and in the states. However, what bothers me the most is the intense coverages that they give soccer on the air in Haiti that even the regular programs stop at some radio stations just for some friendly games.
The European leagues are on top of the sports news reports on a daily basis at 90% of the broadcasts...while there was no mention of even the super bowl game of last weekend.
I'm not an advocate for the NFL...but at this time our media need to understand that we have presently 22 Haitian families that are now MILLIONAIRES because of the NFL...No other discipline came even close, and we need to understand that we have more coming in colleges and universities...not to mention High Schools. I think that this is one subject that our artists can think of and do a song about it in order to create awareness cause all this coverages for soccer is only to AMUSER LA GALLERIE...and that we need to focus on areas that we are strong in this era of reconstruction of our country and communities.
What the hell we got to do with how many goals Mesi scores while there is no mention on how many touchdowns that Pierre Garçon scored....T shirts and posters of Garçon and Vilma are being sold to fans while our people in Haiti don't even know their numbers, their teams or faces...THIS IS SO SAD...while Teves, Pique or Dany Alves are in the mouths of everyone and constantly in the news....
Real Madrid, Barcelone, Olympic de Marseilles, Chelsea, Bayern de Munich got nothing to do with us Haitians and the chance of any of us to play in any of those teams is as slim as a meteor falling on your house...or winning the lottery....while we already have 22 Haitians in top NFL teams. It looks like our community found a golden niche...The Cubans and Dominicans are doing good in baseball while we are doing good in American Football...So if you are going to Haiti I think it will be a good idea to take the oval ball to the youngs instead of the regular round soccer ball.
A couple of HMI songs by the top producers could be the best road to talk about the golden niche or to give OUR American football stars some kind of exposures and we can on the same token encourage them to get involved too somehow...but for now they are completely being ignored and that's not fair....
ALLO RITCHIE/GRACIA...THAT TOO IS ANOTHER CASE OF A L'ENVERS IF YOU ASK ME....A L'ENVERS # 2 _________________ Did you read your "Konpa Encyclopedia" today...

Haitians mostly watch soccer and Basket-Ball. They are the sprots that the mass play and love. Having a song talking about the superbowl or segment about the NFl is cool but Soccer will get most of the highlights. Se nan soccer an nou leve.
While i was down there, they did have boxing match which i thought was cool. _________________ YA RAYI'W TANDE TI GASON(RICKY) |

STaff's point is well taken (as has been previously advocated by H1).
In Florida, Haitians are taking over college football, which is the obvious stepping stone to getting into the NFL. Not only are the top schools, UF, FSU and Miami, getting the top recruits, but schools like USF, UCF, FIU, FAU are getting a lot of the remaining talent. Many articles have been written in our local papers regarding this subject, e.g., Haitian players communicating in Creole so the opposing defenses don't understand...until one day one of the defenders responded "mkonprann wi"
But to XX's point, we're set in our ways man.
Dominicans are cashing in in baseball. We can def be doing the same in football.
p.s. sorry STaff, ma pran Djazz la lel desann Miami yon jou _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

It's easy DK...it's about exposure. Dominicans and Venezuelans didn't just wake up one day and start playing Baseball. Someone brought it to their attention.
epi tou In terms of dollars and cents, ki sa balon RON an fe pou nou konsa?
American Football could NEVER replace soccer in the hearts of Haitians, but si football Amerikin an ka fe kek nan nou soti de zero a million in less than 6 seconds, why not? _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
