On Jan. 12, 2010, Haiti was strucked by a devastating earthquake. The toll of death was estimated to be in the upwards of 300,000, nearly 1 millions are still living in tents cities. We are all frustrated at the slow progress of the recovery effort, but there is no option to quit. We need to double our efforts to face staggering challenges and bring back stability to the country.

Haiti's heart is broken, but it's spirit is well alive through its music, culture, and all its sons, daughters, volunteers, and all those who serve this beloved island. Long Live Haiti.

Do you remember where you were on January 12, 2010? Jan. 12 is Haiti's September 11 and far worst and beyond. Do you remember what you were doing? Karizma (before the band was conceived) leads singer Emmery Etienne was in Haiti on Jan.12, 2010, and he got on the plane hours before the earthquake hit.

Karizma lead singer Emmery on Jan. 12

On this day January 12th 2010 (last year) I was waking up to the sound of merchants walking the street of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Where I had just spent a little over 1 week celebrating the holidays with my loved ones, and also doing promotion for a previous band that i was part of. That day was just another day for my fellow Haitians in Haiti with their regular duties. Waking up that day knowing my journey was over and it was time to head back to new York hit me up and I felt some type of street/tension in my heart leaving the country that I love, finally later on that day at around 2:30 pm I was on my flight back to new York connecting in Miami... But only to hear a couple minutes later after my landing Miami that HAITI had just been strucked by a "7.0 magnitude quake". U and I could of been a victim, so let's hold hands and put our heads together for a better Haiti... R.I.P. To all the people we lost on January 12th 2010!

I was with Noldy, we were in his car driving to the studio. As soon as we got to the studio we turned on the TV...and we started working on a beat. My Dad Called me to tell me he was doing okay! Mecca had called me...i was also texting Blake and my homegirl Soleil. After a few hours we started writing to the beat that Noldy was making. Noldy was sad! He really put his heart and soul on that beat. he was just quiet, on that MPC building the drums... by 4:00AM we had TOMORROW(A TRIBUTE TO HAITI)

I was at work.

at 5:00 my manager told me that an earthquake had just hit Haiti.

I send hubby and instand message right away. He immediately called Haiti and was able to get through the first time around.

I worked for another hour and a half. I really didn't realize how bad it was.

I drove home listening to my konpa as usual. When I got home and saw the pictures on television. I could not believe what was happening.

It was another two days before I was able to reach my own family.

I woke up this morning with a very heavy heart thinking about what happened a year ago on this day.

Man... I keep thinking how I'm going to feel at 4:53.

I was on the phone with my sister, who herself was in Haiti....She said: the house is shacking....screamed...get under the bed, get out hurry....
And the line cut. I tried to call back to no avail...The TV in my office is always on CNN, so I knew right away...I tried my mom, and her Haitel went trough...She wasn't making sens...I called my dad (haitel still), who was walking home from the airport...he was hysterical, repeating my sisters' name over and over....I booked the next flight to SDQ....

She spent 9 hours stuck under the rumbles of my house, with my baby sister, 2 of her friends, my cousin, my grandpa and Madeline, the cook....Some made it out, some didn't....

God works in mysterious ways. That's what I say, we should celebrate life, cherish those we love and tell them that we love them.
