Jay, I understand your point . But we are talking here about what s hurting COMPA not what s hurting a compa festival promoter. what you say about pa guin sentimentalite is right but also si nou pa bay sa kap vini yo yon chance COMPA pap avance. As the DJ said there are established bands who will definitely bring the crowd and the dollars so that if ONE upcoming band is given 30 minutes that would not affect profit much and may advance the genre . Jay you are real in your comments and I appreciate that but the reality of your comment may contribute to hurt COMPA. Ou jwenn nouvel la? _________________ We must die before we go to heaven |

Sraightshooter, we always give upcoming artists the stage to perform in our festival.
They get on stage early in the day when, most of the time, the park is empty.
Often, they rebel againts getting on stage early.
Yo konn di ke yo pap monte paske yo pa vinn bare soleil pou okunn festival..
Bare soieil is term used when the sun is still out and the crowd is not there yet.
Yo tout vle primetime ki inposib pou nou bayo.
Wi, yo toujou la men very few people see them perform paske pi fo moun rive lan park la apre soley la bese...
So toujou gen problem de temps..
Fok yon jazz lucky pou'l jwenn 20 minutes...
Mezanmi, an nou antann nou..
Se experyans mwen map partage avek nou..
Pa fem fe kole paske kom deja pa bon...mwen lan kabann depi yer..
_________________ BAT CHIEN AN, TANN MET LI! |

Jay , mon cher pa fe colere . I am happy that you clarified certain things about the new bands as far as them not trying to grab an opportunity when it s given to them. That too hurts COMPA. I read a lot of your posts here and COMPA needs your input minm si granmoun lan nan kabann as you put it. lol. As they say, ala yon vye JAY papa! _________________ We must die before we go to heaven |

Thanks Mate for bringing order to the thread.
Who's the last big band or artists for the past ten years in the kompa scene?
Ten years folks???? This was bait and no one went for it.
By the time another CARIMI comes out ten years from now, kompa will be way deep underground.Stop catering to old people way past their partying prime and start catering to the young audiences. Young audiences do not give a bloody sh8t about the classics of your party heyday. They want to hear music contemporary and relevant to them and i'm not talking about Hip hop or House.
This point is missed so many times. Figure out what the young people like, and give to them.Real simple, but egos get in the way.
Since some of you keep bringing promoters this promoters that.. So let me ask you this, How many folks who give events, have even reached out to younger promoters, hosts, and such to be sub-promoters?Hell,do some of ya'll even know what sub-promoting is? _________________ You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew, or Gentile. It don't make a difference in our house. |

I am glad that you used CaRiMi as your benchmark..
Promoteur toupatou beswen book yo.
The bottom line is talent..depi gen talent, promoteur yo ap jwenn ou e yap sevi avek ou paske apre tou se kob yap sheshe..
Good night...

WOW.....
I wish you guys would be more optimistic and more positive on the first day of the year.
No, it's back to negativity, personal attacks, false accusation, expression of hate, same as usual.
Pou mwen, biznis konpa direk la is a working progress, Yes, we could have been waqy further, men nou toujou bliye lan analiz nou ke konpaq direk se yon mizik lokal li ye.
Byen ke indrustri'a toujou ap eseye perse marche international la, mizik la toujou rete lokal.
Yon mizik ki pou ayisyen selman. Se ayisyen ki consume konpa.
Si nou pran Reggae, Soca, mizik afrikan, mizik panyol, yo tout international men konpa'a pa janm janbe lanme.
Mwen pa konn pouki rezon men 2 bagay ke etranje ke'm konn fe tande konpa toujou di'm, tempo'a too slow and mizik yo two long...
Si nou koupe sou longeur mizik yo e nou speed up tempo'a, li pap konpa anko.
Se yon bagay ki toujou intrige'm ke anpil etrange prefere tande mizik racine ke konpa.
Byen ke jazz nou yo konn al fe kek ti kou a letrange, men yo toujou preske jwe pou publik frankofonn selman, yo pa preske jwe pou non-francophone.
So Konpa direk la gen limit li. Eske nou kapab perse limit sa yo? I have no idea how this can be done.
An nou pa bay tet nou manti.
Gen lot depans: venue, promotion, securite...
Mwen panse ke 2010 la pat yon bon ane pou konpa direk la. Non selman nou tap fe fas a yon recession men nou te gougougoudou ak eleksyon ki kraze schedule anpil jazz.
Pesonelman, mwen yon ti jan dezapwente pou yon jazz fe 3 zan ap prepare yon CD epi pa gen hit ladan'l.
Jazz yo fe anpil efo e map konplimante yo...
Konpa'a gen pwoblem, menm jan tout lot industrie gen problem men kom yon moun ki yon ti jan pi gran ke tout moun sou bod la (eksepte Celestin ), mwen we anpil progress lan Konpa Direk la.
Societe nou an pat aksepte yo. Yo te panse ke mizisyen vle di vagabon e anpil paran pat aksepte pitit fi yo renmen ou byen marye ak mizisyen.
Now, non selman nou aksepte yo, nou adore yo.
Not too long ago, jeune fille pat janm te konn kanpe devan jazz, kounyeya, se pouse pou pase devan.
Lontan, menm jeune gacon pat renmen kanpe devan jazz pou yo pa rele yo gratteur.
Konpa'a soti lwen men li fe anpil progress.
Menm si etranje yo vole tout bagay lan peyi'a men yo pap janm ka vole konpa direk la...
Konpa'n se pa'n...
Konpa se nou e nou se konpa...
An nou kontinue mashe sou beat konpa nou... |
I agree with you completely... until Kompa becomes international we will always be in the same spot. There are a few bands tht could have made the crossover possible but they started and stopped half way. There are bands that are recognized internationally but to a limit. I know many young haitian-americans, americans, jamaican, and other nationalities that dont listen to kompa neccessarily but love certain songs from bands such as Carimi, Kassav, King Posse, etc. Its true the type of music we play is not neccessarily appealing to other cultures besides Haitians but we can make it work ... si te genyen tet ansanm... which is the biggest problem amongst us as Haitians. We cant even be happy for a fellow brother that is advancing or making grounds in the industry without someone trying tint the next fellow artists reputation and/or destroy their business so that theirs can be ahead. Its rare you will see other haitian artist collaborate with one another in each others albums unless its to play an instrument. Next thing you know ou tande ke wi... yo pat recognize them on the album cover or etc. This industry has made progress... we still have a long way to go... but I am hopeful.
We need to started working together and appreciate one another. Problem lan la depi lontan... its getting worst now everyday! There is no type of loyalty... a band is suppose to be a family... if one person is suffering than everyone in the family must stick together until there is a solution.. you dont bail out and think u can do better on ur own. Learn to work with the faults of one another... leave the personal business in the family. Its a shame when things are good all secrets are kept but the minute the friendship/partnership is broken... se le sa ou te we antel te se si... antel te gentan sela... Their is no stability at all!
I cant stand those insiders that be quick to leak out info... grow some.. if u can leak out the info.. u should be able to let the world know who you are so that the info can be properly verified and/or investigated. These so called insiders are the leeches of the industry... yo pa la pou bati se detruire yo la pou detruire.. whats worst we are here to entertain them.
I pray each and everyday for the industry and the haitian community! We will never reach the level of success until we learn how to conduct business correctly with dignity, respect, and loyalty! _________________ THE REAL ME |

When the product is good and respect is given to the fans the bands will be fine. If you look around the couple of bands who are doing ok right now are the ones who either are well managed or respect the fans to some extents and are drama free. If they were the only bands around now in the HMI they would make way more money and COMPA would be further than it is. Bands yo hurt tete yo and COMPA way before the fans hurt them. |
WELL I UNDERSTAND YOU CLEARLY, BUT THERE ARE NEARLY HUNDREDS OF RAPPERS AND 80 PERCENT OF THEM ARE MILLIONAIRES IN THE AMI, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE ATLEAST ONE HMI MILLIONAIRE ARTIST?...EXACTLY THAT'S OUR FAULT...POUKISA ISNARD DOUBY, COUBANO ETC. PA GEN LAJAN JAN POU YO TA GENYEN'L LA?...SE PASKER NOU MINM AYISIEN PA JANM PRAN KONSIANS, NAN TOUT MUSIC INDUSTRY THAT I KNOW OF, HMI IS THE GREATEST NAN FE COPIE,WE HAVE 10 MILLION HAITIANS YOU MEAN TO TELL ME IF WE WERE SUPORTIVE LIKE WE SHOULD CARIMI WOULDN'T SALE AT LEAST 200 THOUSAND COPIES?...ATLEAST!!!!, ALL WE DO IS BRAG ABOUT HOW GREAT THE ALBUM IS AND WE THINK THAT IT'S SUPPORT!!!... IT'S NOT. _________________ Se pa sa'w fe ya....Se jan'w fe'l la |
