HARMONIK vocalist MAC D. flexes his muscles in these pictures with 2 major statements. The 2009 KOMPA MAGAZINE "SONG OF THE YEAR" award for "OBSEDE" which the group received this past weekend in New York. (RICHARD CAVE of Carimi and RICHIE of ZENGLEN being 2 of the hmi people who voted for Harmonik to get this in our annual honors)...and WITH THE STATEMENT ON HIS SHIRT as displayed on the THIRD PICTURE...a stereotype that many Haitians I am sure has heard from other people of different personalities, and also perhaps from some of our own...."WHAT DO YOU MEAN I DON'T LOOK HAITIAN?"

CONGRATS TO HARMONIK and MAC D.

KM!

That message on his shirt, everytime I see it, it's always had an underlying self gratification and praise a kote'l. Ou pap janm we yon Aysyen ki pa tro (what people would consider to be good looking) wear that shirt. Trust me, it's there.

Frankly, Mac D, you DO look Haitian. I could understand that shirt on baby Rey, Roberto etc... And guess what, they do NOT look Haitian.

Shirts sa yo, mwen rele yo "look at me I'm cute" type of shirts. (I'm not saying the guy is cute or isn't cute, mwen pa foot konnen, mwen pap cheke'l), just talking about the underlying SECOND message of that shirt.

Nou santi sa'm di a wi...

*I'm not singling out Mac D, I don't think he's got that complex, li tro sanble Aysyen (unless the other Aysyen don't work out). It could have been on the back of anyone, and I would have made that statement. A general statement, where he just happens to be in my line of fire.

Robert Martno could have slipped onthat shirt, and I wouuld have walked up to him and say "Hell no you don't", paske 99.9% of the Haitian population DO NOT look like you. It's a simple OBSERVATION based on STATS which you CANNOT argue with.

No one is saying you don't look Black (the people who wear those shirts who are Black), remember it's a race, NOT a nationality.

People who wears this shirt and are asking others "What do you mean I don't look Haitian", YOU are THE ONES, implying that Haitians look A CERTAIN WAY. You are stereotyping yourself in a way. Just kite'l mache...

I expect to see that shirt on mizisyen ki ap pouse van nan dyaz yo mostly, paske yo paret diferan anpil de majorite lot mizisyen yo, moun ka gen konfizyon, men yon neg ki ap chante gro bout Kreyol li san aksan, a la yon neg papa.

Audience lan dwe gade atis la and ask, who is he talking to? By thinking u were Michel Batista or Richard Morse.

I'll say it again, if I see that shirt on a guy like someone who does NOT look like 99.9% of the rest of Haitians epi li ap chante gro bout Kreyol li san aksan, m'ap konprann sa. But, sou anpil lot neg? Hmmm okay, no one thought you weren't Haitian.

Daph, I think I see where Port Margot is going with this.

Technically, there is certain expectancy in regards to how someone from every race should look like; I know someone who is from the Middle East and is blond with blue eyes, he always gets “You look European...blah blah blah”

From my experience, it’s usually Haitians telling their own that they do not look Haitian; it’s rarely another nation saying that.Mac is very handsome and I am interested in knowing what ethnicity he may have been jumbled him for, I am guessing Latino, which seems to be the next best thing for some.

Congrats Harmonik on winning! Keep up the amazing work.

Ok you did say from your experience and I can agree with that as well to a certain extent but you'd be surprised to hear how many other ethnicities here in the states and abroad that say the "you don't look Haitian" thing...it annoys the heck out of me Twisted Evil It's even worse when you hear very own Haitian brethren spew that ignorance. My response is always, what does a Haitian look like?
