INDYFEST facelift?

Starting next year, expect the INDYFEST festival to have MORE OF A MIXTURE in terms of BANDS/ARTISTS...and that means some INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR in the mix.

KALIKO is apparently doing that to avoid having the same groups/lineup that continually pop up at all the HMI festivals.

Dominican, Reggae, American acts...mixed with a few Haitian bands.

KM!

While I agree that the festival needs a facelift. I think that is the wrong approach. Keep in mind that the festival's name is HAITIAN INDEPENDENCE FESTIVAL! Unless he is ready to change the name or rather adopt INDYFEST as the official name.... Rolling Eyes

You made a valid point. When someone just come back from Haiti spending all their money for Christmas holidays, they will not travel to Miami to attend a festival, unless they really have good financial assets.

But if kaliko add some international acts, like reggae and soca artists, AMI rappers... the festival might attract more Haitian-Americans and more non-Haitians, especially we have a lot of people from the island in South Florida, who love their reggae and soca music.

Now how many of those international artists will Kaliko be able to add to the line-up to attract a huge non-Haitian crowd. And considering that those AMI and the dancehall artists not only ask for a lot of money, they also have a list of logistics needed for their performance, will Kaliko be able to make a profit, even when he has 2,000 to 4,000 non-Haitians attending.

Should the name HAITIAN INDEPENDENCE FEST be a restrain to the kind other music genre that can be added. Rolling Eyes Shocked

HAITIAN INDEPENDENCE has opened door for other people to fight for their independence as well. It's not only Blacks, but also Latinos.
In my opinion, that's a way to invite other people to join us and celebrate our independence with us every year. That's in fact a good way to expose our music to non-Haitians who might never listen our Haitian music.

Should the name COMPAS FEST be a problem because Noel add rasin and Rap Kreyol group in the line-up.

Now if kaliko move the festival to another month, I agree he might need to change the name. And since, if he moves it for the 1st week of February, he can keep the same name because February is Black History Month. We can celebrate ouir Independence suring Black Hisdtory month, as some kind of achievement by Blacks.

Sam ta suggerer kaliko...se changer date la premierement...fel yon date taktik...kote pap gin grate tet poum moun dessan si yo interesse...pa bliye chake festival so si paw la mal placé...moun ap pito tann yon lot kap gin mem djazz yo epi kap pi easy pou li alé..

DATE OF THE FESTIVAL...NAME...THEN PROMO...

kaliko is a very smart guy...li toujou gin bel ti line up..so once he has it on track....he will be more than ok Wink

Now, what other date will work. We have festival in New york in June and September. We have festival in Miami in November. Plus, we have other festivals in Montreal or elsewhere.
