SHOCKED....NOT at the band playing well...but HOW QUICKLY they got the band rolling on such a high level of LIVE playing.

Last night in NEW YORK at the HARMONIK/CARIMI party...THEY PASSED THE TEST IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

ATTENDANCE...PACKED!
MUSIC SELECTION.....BRAVO!
STAGE & CROWD REACTION......VERY GOOD.

The group's many practices in Miami seem to be paying off extremely well. If you last saw the group in New York at their Grand Premiere at SOBS...THIS IS A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME!

This is a group that will SOON...become one of the TOP BANDS in the business in every sense of the word. The buzz is going around, and they are now backing it up with SOLID LIVE PLAYING. In terms of SHOWTIME...THEY are following the same route as the CARIMI's and T-VICE's...and the LADIES LOVE IT based on the reaction that they got last night.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: I did NOT like the performance of "JERE'M" last night. Not that there seemed to be anything drastically wrong with it, it just seemed a bit "COLD".

HOWEVER...They rocked it with the usual favorites such as "HO PARLEUR" (My favorite LIVE Harmonik track), "IRVINGTON" (From Mizik Mizik), as well as other songs from their repertoire.

HMI YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. This HARMONIK CREW is NO FREAKIN' JOKE!

ROOSEVELT and the "GOUYAD MAN" (Gong Player), as well as MARC HAROLD (Bass), and the congas player form a very tough BAN DEYE that the front men of HARMONIK should be very proud of.

"DIM MWEN KISA POU'M FE" and "OBSEDE" represented well last night as well.

MWEN HARMONIZE'M net al kole last night. I HAD LOTS OF FUN.

Harmonik MALADE "YEF" manke fou si tellment LWA pran mussieur.

I respectfully disagree with the review. The smooth jazzy rendition of "get up stand up" was the only musical piece worth listening to from Harmonik. Since it was their intro, I have to admit that it went very well with the band's motto "high expectation, low yield". After this intro I thought I was in for a night where music as an art form would take center stage. A night where the drink, the beautiful ladies, and the venues will be complementing the musical performance --not effortlessly eclipsing it. Well, true to their motto "high expectation, low yield", harmonik did not disappoint.

The rest of their performance was a complete fiasco. It was as if bad sound, lack of coordination, and cacophony suddenly became animated and were competing for the award for performance pooper. It was like the chicken and the egg, which came first lack of coordination or bad sound? I think they should share the award, but both unequivocally led to cacophony. Thus cacophony is clearly the winner or the loser in this competition depending on your preferred angle. It was unbelievable. I knew the equation relating hype to musical prowess was not well balanced for Harmonik. But, with names like Nicky, Mc D, and Roosevelt, I did not expect the ratio of noise to musical prowess to be 9/1. Harmonik is not the average new band, and should not be acting as one.

Normally, with great ease, I find at least two positive aspects of a performance that are worth mentioning. Just for the sake of the "constructive criticism" nonsense. Harmonik must bless whoever coined the term “constructive criticism” and the day it became widely accepted as an integral part of any reviews. Finding two “constructive criticism” for the performance is synonymous with me having to apologize twice to harmonik for an awful show. Bref… what can I say, I already mentioned the " jazzy intro" as a positive. What else . I guess, if they stick together and practice in 3-5 years there may be some improvement. Of course,... yes I know...., with the volatility of members like Nicky, Roosevelt and Mc D, 3 years is a long stretch of the imagination for the band. I think in a 3 years prognostic/probability evaluation, Haiti becoming a better country would score higher than harmonik sticking together and eventually becoming a more coordinated band.

I can’t comment on Carimi since I had to leave after harmonik debacle. No don’t get it twisted, I did not have anything to do, I just could not take it anymore.

Disclaimer: I’m harsher or harsh on harmonik because, they are not a NEW band in every sense of the term.

Pat you said it all! The bottom line is this: Harmonik improved tenfold! From the on-stage chemistry to the animation to song execution! MacD is in command upfront and they are just having fun on stage!


Lets not forget to the heir of the hmi throne Carimi! They always satisfy their fans! The carimi/harmonik party is hot! Boston ap jwenn aswe a!
