Full Band: A band where all the instruments are played by a person (musician). It has nothing to do with how many musicians are in the band but that all the instruments are played by a musician. Sometimes a band may use on of the keyboard player to play the horns part to save money from paying 2 or 3 horn players.
Because a keyboard player use a sampling module does not put the band inthe Digital Band category. A keyboard player may choose to use a sampler instead of a synthesizer because the sampler reproduce a real instrument sound (the real instrument is recorded and sampled).
Digital Band: A band where a sequencer is used to reproduce a pattern, and or instrument(s) recorded into it by a musician. For example, most of the time the keyboard player will play/record the Congas, Gong, Drums, and any other synthesized instruments ( a task that takes talent, know how, and a good understanding of all instruments range and capabilities) into the sequencer and use the sequencer and one or more Sound Module to play back the instruments (sounds) he recorded.
In the full band format the musicians follows one another and can depend on each other to pickup the beat if one of them is playing slower or fasteror what have you.
The digital format is more rigid because the musicians are following a machine which never miss a beat ( A very hard thing for a human to keep up with) and if a musician miss a beat its easier to be noticed because the machine cannot slows down nor play faster to sync. with the rest of the musicians.
NB: The AKAI MPC can be used as a sequencer and a sampler.
I should add that all bands, digital or full, uses sequences when recording their CD because it makes recording faster. The band will get someone to sequence the songs, then the sequence is layed on record tracks and the musicians will then play their parts to produce the final song.
Hope this help.

An MPC is a sequencer and sampler in one box. You can use it to play the sequences you recorded into it and yuou can also sample (record) real instrument sound into it. Sampling means having a trumplet player play notes and or scales and even a few musical bars, recording it, shape it etc. in the sample and play it back to sound as if the trumplet player was right there playing. You can also use it to record (sample) a short guitar groove into it and have it play back while the band is playing. You can also use it as a drum machine with sampled drum sounds. The more memory you have in the machine (MPC) the longer the groove (samples) can be and the better the sounds are reproduced.
I hope that and Sanrick's picture helped you a bit.

2) Djaz tankou Carimi T-vice Kreyòl la etc yo te kite stad dijital la pou yo ta vini sa yo ta rele komuneman "Semi-full" lè yo vin ajoute batri an... Carimi just raise standard semi-full lan kote li mete tanbou ak gong ladan'l... Kiyès k'ap swiv???
3) Dijital li menm, s'on mini djaz san ling van san pèkusyon reèl

The confusion really came from the way these bands were titled. Digital and full band are the wrong titles to be used for these particular bands. A more appropriate title would be a LIVE BAND and a SEMI-LIVE BAND.
To prove my point;
A sequencer is like a recorder that can record multiple instruments. You can have a sequencer sound fuller then 20 musicians in a live band.
A live band(full band) does not have to be consisted of many musicians. For instance, Mini-Jazz had fewer amounts of musicians then Nemours band or System. |

Kowonpu cheri what i mean is that Carimi se 1e band ki semi full avèk ling pèkusyon konplè (batri tanbou gong)... Se sak fè'm di li raise standard yo Krezi efektivman pye pou pye dèyè avèk (batri tanbou) Men pou on moun te pase de sa yo ta rele dijital a semi full, yo te just bay tèt yo lapenn ajoute on batri... Ou la cheri?
Donk kounyè an nou ka pèmèt nou di avèk new standard Carimi yo ke
Semi- full = Full - ling van _________________ SE PA MAJI!!! SE TRAVAY DI!!! |
