I'm not quite sur how the whole thing started. Actually I do.

yesterdya my manager was telling me about an article about a woman who was forced to stay in jail for 20 years after being caught with a small amount of cacaine because she refused to give up her source.

At some point during our conversation I said " i say legalize the dran thing."

My manager went out of his mind.

He couldn't believe that an educated personlikeme coul reason in such a way. His words not mine.

I love a good debate so before I knew it he and I was going at it... with me arguing for the legalization of drugs...something that I'm not wutie sure I support.

But he was con so we couldn't very well be on the same side! What would be the fun in that?

So now the question goes to you my smart andknowledgeable km peoples?

What are your thoughts ont he state of affairs with the war on drugs?

Do you think it's working? I don't think it is.

Many think that the war on drugs is nothing but another ploy to put more black men and women in jail and make some people in high places very rich.

Many think that a war could break out if drugs was legalized. What do you thing?

These are some benefits to making drugs legal that some economists have brought to the table:

1. reduce crime rates: since drugs would be available in the market place, people wouldn't kill to get it... and innocent by standers wouldn't get caught in the cross fire. Drug dealers wouldn't kill others over drug money. No drug related shoot outs.

2. reverse the potency effect. (not sure what that's about.)

3. prevent the spread of disease

4. No more millions and millions of dollars spent on drug law enforcement.

5. price of drugs will go down which will decrease profit.

but is it that simple? many economic theories have proven not to be.

What do you guys think?

My main thing about legalizing drugs is this... if Alcohol is legal why not drugs?

people abuse legal drugs don't they?

Drugs will never legalize due to the simple fact that pharmaceutical can’t control that market. You have country like Colombia, Jamaica, Afghanistan and México that are producing narcotic by the pounds therefore the street value will drop if they ever legalize it. Furthermore Medication, are nothing but drugs. It’s a billion dollar industry and the pharmaceutical companies have lobbyists paying politician mucho greens to keep it that way. Hope this answer your question.

That was one of my arguments.

But what do you think of the points brought forth by supporters of legalization?

do you think the drug problem could be solved that easily... youthink all t hose theories would become reality if frugs were to be legalized?

I have a hard time believing that.

Which drugs precisely you want legalized? I hope you don't mean all drugs.

People often cite countries like Jamaica and Holand to justify legalizing drugs.

I believe one ought to take into account a country's culture and way of life in considering to legalize any type of narcotics.

I believe a people's outlook on life inevitably affects their use of narcotics. Life in Jamaica and Holland, for instance, is no doubt more laid-back than life in the U.S. In a way, their use of certain drugs suit their lifestyles.

Consider Japan for instance. Japan is believed to have the highest suicide rate in the world due to high stress level. Now, legalizing any addictive narcotics in such an environment would be adding fuel to fire.

Others may disagree, but I believe the U.S. is one stressed-out country. If drugs were suddenly made legal, drug abuse would go the roof of this mother.

I am, however, not totally against legalizing pot, which is not so addictive as some people claim -- done in a measured way.

My proposition: sell pot over the counter under the following conditions:

1) User must be 21 or over (show ur freaking ID)

2) No smoking when using any type of machinery, including motor vehicles (sorry potheads)

3) No mixing of pot with other narcotics (Hydro, Juicy Lucy...or lab-treated weed)

I have never heard of cacaine being illegal, nor do I know what cacaine is.
