We asked GAZZMAN straight up if NU LOOK will finally man up and take the "BETON" challenge by starting to do carnaval meringues, and to also go down in Haiti to participate in the festivities. This is what he told me.
GAZZMAN: "Arly and I are in a position where we feel that we don't want to go to carnaval just so we can prove to people that we are there. Nou pa bezwen fe moun we. I read that KENNY DESMANGLES stated that a band has to go down sou beton an PRAN 2/3 Frappe in order to learn. While I agree in a way with him, that also does not mean that we NU LOOK have to put ourselves in a position "Pou al pran Frappe" in Haiti. IT DOES NOT LOOK GOOD FOR A BAND OF NU LOOK'S STATURE."
GAZZMAN continues: "We also have a few examples of bands that have not done too well at carnaval, whether it's ZENGLEN, PHANTOMS, or CARIMI. I really believe that for a band to succeed at carnaval, you have to be based down there. Se pou sou Beton an. TVICE might live in Florida, but I think they are really from down there. Kite Kanaval pou jazz ki viv Haiti yo."

Nu look has nothing to prove and I don't think they need to go to Haiti for carnival...I just dont think thats their cup of tea...Same for major Kompadirek bands like SYSTEM, ZENGLEN, Skah SHah...thats just not their style!!!
