To make it in the music industry these day is no longer “ you gotta pay your dues”; making it in the music industry it’s about learning the industry, developing your talent, planning and goals; lastly, its implementing or carrying our these goals.

In the case of these various artists who come out w/ little to no talent, you must understand they need to start off somewhere. Whether we like it or not, they need to build artist biography which entails their growth as an artist and furthermore, what they are doing and where their headed. How will they be able to have any write-ups in any industry newspaper, television or publications? These little Cd’s that we are buying from them are their demos. It’s basically their jump-start. So we can’t be too harsh on them. It becomes a problem when you find an artist 7-10 years later w/ the same results and haven’t seen any growth, the artist clearly is showing there are no future plans but just to stay a float and survive. This is when it is a disservice not only to the artist but the fans. It also becomes a disservice when you have no lyrical content w/ meaning or essence, and the musical compositions is what I practice in elementary.

After years in this industry we shouldn’t have to settle for a demo, but something of quality. Alot of the HMI bands want to be notice within the AMI, but haven’t put their best foot forward and deliver something of quality. Us, as the fans are partially to blame considering we are not objecting, but what can you really say, when your being fed garbage for so long you ultimately become a custom to taking in the garbage. Whether it’s entirely our fault is up for debate. Reason being so many of the fans are American born Haitian or they were raise in the U.S.; with once more, little to no knowledge of the past bands. Musical genius such as, Tabou Combo, Top Vice, Skah shah, Caribbean Sextet etc. Its not everyday you will find these band fill-up a club the way T-vice, Carimi, Djakout would. Another growing problem seems to be fans who become obsessed w/ making claims to a band or going as far as to provoke physical harm to these artist and fans of these artist. Better yet, artist coming on the board to argue or meet up w/ board members. In no industry I’ve seen it reach to this level of insecurity; were one can’t even enjoy a night out listening to good music w/out you observing every possible exit sign….its become too volatile.

In the HMI having a great press kit or any strategies will assure any artist a place in a band or contract that can take them to the topped. It shouldn’t be the case…we all know that…but business is business in the end, and behide these business, there are starving artist who need to have food on their plate as well…don’t you agree? Some people say, “Haiti is a poor country and these musicans/artist can not afford some certain things”, but then I say, stop spending so much on packaging and perhaps more on the quality of the sound. And we as fans need to demand more from some bands, where as, they will be working to please the fans and both will be satisfied. It really works hand in hand. Life doesn’t have to be that complicated, we as human beings make it complicated.

In terms of, some artist coming out w/ no real musical talent, such as, our dear darling MeiMei… She is young, what are we expecting? Her vocal range will never be a Mariah or Celine Dion, but we can give some of them the benefit of the doubt that they will make an effort to give the fans a “bang for their bucks”. Now don’t get me wrong I am tired of hearing all these artist whom don’t know the difference between decrescendo to crescendo, but I’m not going to bash them either; if they are truly making an effort. However, I would like to see occasionally some nice foot works…and I’m mean 8 counts and all. It just seem disappointing when all other nationalities have this down pack, and we still cheering on our mediocre fake celebrities. Its ok to have a Britney Spears or T-Pain, but when it out ways the real good artist from 20/9 it has now become a severe handicap to the representation of Haiti in its entirety.

In short, before I can even get at the artist for not delivering…the whole industry as a whole needs to be re-structured, dissected, and set a course for intervention. BS promoters fighting back and forth, lateness, lack of professionalism, and not to mention proper attire. PrincessJ…its deeper then that, and we need much more then some artist who lack thereof.
