i believe a band like T-vice and a very select few others maybe 2 or 3 are faced with a major issue...they have no more breathing room in the hmi and are suffocating/overgrowing their clothes/shoes are too small/limiting their musical growth by chasing their thug dollars in bullshit garbage places like Amazura and dealing ith ingorant/uninsured/non-incorporated/personally liable/shady "business" promoters. Apparently T_vice did not learn from their last smack in the face at amazura at the beginning of this year when Carimi and their cronies did them dirty. Fool me once... shame on you fool me twice...shame on me. T-Vice members shouldnt be so worried about a little airplane in haiti falling from the sky, they should be more worried that smeone can come on stage or backstage and stop their show my causing harm. IS THIS WHAT THEY GOT INTO THE MUSIC SCENE FOR????

MY PROPOSAL..... leave the hmi... that doesnt mean stop playing compas... its time to venture into uncharted lands. PLay in new venues where haitian promoters arrent involved. Do shows at jazz clubs, african lounges, brazilians bars, play with other caribbean bands or spanish artists on the same bill for a venue. WE ALREADY KNOW IT CAN BE DONE SINCE YOU WENT TO AUSTRALIA AND KILLED IT SO DONT SAY IT WONT WORK!!

I ve seen the photo of you guys in vegas hangin out... hell why not put together a marketing plan where u put a known artist on teh bill with you and you perform with them to get people to konw u other than the slob/pathetic haitians u have been dealing with?? you guys are gona bust your ass for us????? we dont deserve it. if we did we wouldnt let animals into the clubs to get away with this... I am directing this at tvice but i guess there are a few others who could hear this also but the hell with them. Ive been around enough marketing executives to see something special when i see it. you guys need to hire a music consultant to test new waters for you... Its time to expand.....say bye bye to hmi and hello to peace and prosperity....hmi is puting a nail in its own coffin...dont end up being the lining on the inside of the coffin...

laziness and unprofessionalism.

the two reasons why Kompa bands can't make the crossover, meaning having a Worldwide audience.

Most of the promotors actually don't do any promotion for the bands, but they simply are finding a way to make their own money. My proposal would be those hot Kompa bands of today could do it if they work hard at it. But due to their own un-professionalism, it is not likely.

The bands are like a business in their own rights. What about structuring the bands like a true corporation. Since we do not have major Haitian labels to do the promotion, the bands could start by having their own promotion group, not the way it is done nowadays with some of those self-interest promotion groups. A promotion group who will not be afraid to venture into new territories. Yes, it may be hard at the beginning, but if those bands are really good as they claim, I am sure they will survive the few bumps on the road.

Bands like TVice, Carimi, "Djakout" could probably go for it. In the meanwhile they would still serve the Haitian market, but they could also reserve some dates to play for an international audience. They would have to start writing songs for those audiences too. So it would take a much bigger effort from the bands than we realize.

But we all know that many Haitians like to think small, dream big, and be lazy. It doesn't work that way in real life. We have to think big, dream big, and work hard.

Great post by the way. Of course it can be done. Why do you think band like kasav is able to play anywhere in the World? it's hard work.

Right of course there is no money in playin at places like BB Kings, of never there what was i thinking... i mean many underground jamaican artists play there, african artists, spanish artists. and they dont make money at all.... noooo... you clearly are crazy if you think these artists are getting rich in the hmi...

Im not talking about crossing over either here. In order to cross over you have to have been recognized by others. Hmi artists are barely killing sales with haitians. they cant even manage to get their own people to stop profusely bootlegging their cds. Are you willing to call Tabou Combo a failure i mean they have played incountries all over the world and im sure with other types of artist on teh bill as well. Why is is such a bad thing if the current hmi artists try to expand and grow. Some of you apparently like stagnant artists that go nowhere. Change is the only thing taht can grow a band. HMi bands have been doing the same thing for a long time now....

Its been 50 years of kompas....You would think our music would be steadily played or have gigs in islands surrounding our country like jamaica, cuba, DR, puerto rico. but are they really? When you look at merengue from DR its freakin everywhere. and these artists sell like hotcakes.. Whats our excuse.. im waiting for someone to say its cause the hmi is not organized. its not, it hasnt been in 50 years. if it was going to happen it would have. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time. HMI is clearly insane.
