Dorsainvil, Jean-Claude (Charlie) - Singer
Charlie’s voice was for a long time one of the most heard voices in Haiti especially in the 1970’s and the 1980's. He wrote some of Bossa Combo’s greatest hits, songs like “Te Quero” and “Permanente” which will always be in the hearts and minds of Konpa fans all over the world.
Charlie was also among the members who left Bossa Combo to create the band Accolade de N.Y. He helped Accolade to become one of the most popular bands of the 1980’s by singing the super hit songs like Madan Jules, Latiamimi, La Foie among others.
Jean Claude Dorsainvil who was once a Medical School student, choose in the early 1970’s a career in music by joining Bossa Combo. After several attempts to bring back the band Accolade de N.Y to life, and an attempt to reunite with some former members of Bossa Combo in the project BossAccolade, Jean Claude finally call it quit and realized that his life as a musician was behind him.
A friend told me recently that he heard that Jean Claude's health is not at its best....if anyone knows anything.....please share...
Charlie I hope you are fine and if you are ill...please...please get well soon....as I once told you.....you are not only my Tokay(same first names)....you are one of my favorite Konpa singers/composers.

mr Dorsainvil is definitely one of my favorite compas singers, he would make my list for top 5. I discovered the real "charlie" on bossa combo's agwetawoyo album and fell in love with his voice & vocal abilities. Jean Claude Dorsainvil's voice has the softness of Gerard Dupervil and the charisma of Cubano.

in regards to his health, charlie did have a stroke a couple of years ago but he must be doing much better because i saw him at SOB's when magnum band performing.

Staff, I recently saw Jn-Claude Dorsainvil and by the way he was walking i can say it is somebody that suffered a stroke. He is walking (which is good ) but with the help of a cane.
I use to get a hair cut at a Barber Shop on 168 and Hillside ave in Queens back in the late 80's and he use to be there all the time. Cool dude and has a great sense of humor......

The owner of the barber shop was the late Klébert Dupoux also known as Klebert Derenoncourt the father of Henry Derenoncourt the ex co-owner of Creole Paradise and Imagine Night Club...who is now also involve in the new club about to open in Brooklyn.....
My late brother Fanfan and I basically introduced Henry to the HMI and we made the basement of Tropical Barber Shop our "Agimal" hangout spot.....later Klebert rented the barber shop out to a guy who started a daily poker game in the basement and we move our base to Cambria Heights.
Charlie used to live on 165th just a short distance from the Barber shop...this is how one day we were talking about Uptown and Downtown...he ask me to explain what we were talking about....a friend name Tizo who is also dead now said it's simple just think of it that way m Uptown pou monté....downtown=dessann......an ro la ville...an ba la ville.....when the song Madan Jules was released we heard it in the song....uptown monté...downtown dessann

Jn Claude was the lead singer of LES PROFESSIONELS before joining Bossa in 1974 on the BOSSU DIT album in 1974. Almando Keslin, and Rodrigue Toussaint had left Bossa Combo as the drummer to join LES PROFESSIONELS. Jn Claude crossed path with two former Bossa Combo musicians while in Les Professionels. Jn Claude left Professionels for Bossa Combo in 1974 and almando left later in 1975 for Dificilles. rodrigue toussaint went back to Bossa Combo in 1976.

Eddy Germain was my friend and my barber...as a matter of fact at the festival last Sunday I was telling some stories of the barber to Pat in the presence of Eddy...I was telling Pat of KM that Eddy is one great barber....
One more thing about him that most people don't know is that he is also an accordionist....

Back to Charlie...I thank all of you guys for these info....Clifford Sylvain and Lucien Ceran two former musicians of Accolade also talked to me on the phone today.....Lucien told me that Jean Robert Damas the saxophonist of Bossa/Accolade is in the same situation...walking with a cane also after having a stroke.
Another thing that some of you may not know about Charlie also is that for the longest while he used to be the one who brought the band to DC/MD for me from N.Y with his bus services in the 90's. He also used to be one of the drivers in the Linden Boulevard corridor in Queens....He was not the only musician doing that job....the saxophonist of Super 9 who later played with Bazouka my mean man Herntz Valerius (Doudou) was also one of my favorite drivers to bring bands to DC/MD when I was an active show promoter.....
One day I did a successful show with Septentrional and after the show Charlie was impressed and he was thinking of a comeback...because he told me that his regret is that at his prime time there were no such thing as "Music Videos" and he would love to have one at least........
Let's just imagine the video of Charlie singing "Manicure pedicure DOLA mandé'm gnou lavaj DOLA mandé'm gnou retouche DOLA permanente permanente"... or..."te quero mucho mucho yo te quero mucho...di menaj ou m'se zanmi'w padil si men nem'w nan Bossa".....or better yet Madan Jules or Latiamimi...
