good evening km, yesterday the 7 of september mark my one year in iraq. the month of september also marks my 12th year in the army. this past 12 months has been the hardest on my life. my good friend in my company lost his life three days before last christmas while patrolling downtown baghdad, ironnically i was supposed to be there with him, but at the last minute i got pulled of it. Now i know many people dont agree with the war but at the same time we are just soldiers we dont make policies we just execute. its just like if you boss tells you to do something wether you agree or not you have to do it or be fired or quit.
In the past 12 months i cant count how many times ive been shot at or things getting blowed near me, its experience that i will never foget. i myself spent several weeks in the hospital due to an ied bomb. for those of you who dont know ied stands for improvised explosive device. sometimes i feel the need to talk and let pain out. at one time i thought i was so macho and tough, but after seeing you friends getting they feet, head, arms and burn where you dont even recognize the face. after a while it gets to you and it hurts. i see these kids here in iraq suffering like the kids in our beloved country of haiti, that hurt me also because im a father also.
i did not ask for this war but at the same im proud or my work and my job. one reason i really like my job is because i know that im also fighting for the freedom of my haitian people that comes to the u.s to seek a better life for themselves and they family. i know when i get back i probably will have to see a specialist in ptsd because seeing all these killings is not normal to me.
As of right now i have 43 days left, i cant wait to eat all my favorite haitian dishes and try to assume a normal life. i thank you km for letting me airing my feelings hope to see some of at one of the haitian bal when i get back to northern ny, thats where im station.
p.s. i do have pictures if some of you guys like to see them let me knowand i will try my best to send them. once again thank you. oh yea KUNTA if you read my post i would like to talk to you in private if you have the time. bye for now km. |

haitianin_usarmy, I appreciate the fact that you've taken the time to share your experiences with us man. You're absolutely right about the fact that you and the rest of the soldiers are there to execute the commands of the military and civillian commanders whether we agree with them or not. Thank you so much for the sacrifices you and the others have made and continue to make. My personal, as well as the KM family pray for your safe return. Keep in touch and when you return there'll be lots of du ri, sos pwa, banann, and griyo waiting for you...Take care brother! _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
