I have to give props to George W. Bush and his brain (Karl Rove). These guys are great at steering the attention from the real issues. They did it in 2004 and they are now doing it again. Guess what? It’s working again. Back in 2004, many Americans were concerned with the number of young American soldiers dying in Iraq, the fact that the mastermind of the 9/11 attack was still at large, 45 million Americans with no health insurance along with many other important issues. Well, Mr. Bush and company diverted the attention to Gay marriage. Some of us were so consumed by it that we overlooked the real issues. Bush went on to win the presidential elections. In 2006, the Iraq war is still unpopular with the majority of Americans and the gas prices are going through the roof. You would think there would be an outcry being that the mid-term elections are only a few months away. Once again the republican spin machine divert our attention from the real issues, this time is illegal immigration. The proposed bill to deport illegal immigrants was a well calculated plan to divert attention away from price gouging at the pump, inflated housing prices, and more importantly the lobbying scandal that many republicans are facing in Washington. They knew danm well they could not deport all 12 million illegal immigrants, but they also knew this was a hot button issue that would polarized the country. Once again, they have succeeded.
2004: Gay Marriage
2006: Illegal immigration
I wonder what’s next.......

Great observation Jacomo.
A few weeks ago, K. Rove had to testify. We hear nothing of it in the news. Even after Scotty admitted that he was ordered by Bush and Dick to reveal the agent's name V. Plame to the press. It’s unbelievable how they control the media.
I think when reporters without borders were putting out a list of suppressed press/media by many governments around the world, the United States should have been at the head of the list. _________________ Musique!!!....C'est ce qui fait bouger la planete. |

Boulvardestubes,
CIA Leak scandal, Scooter Libby, John Abramoff, Tom Delay, Karl Rove, gas prices but yet the media's focus is dead centered on immigration rallies. You are absolutely right about the American Media being suppressed.....
Ti poupouche,
When I say smart, I don't mean it in the literal sense but in a very sarcastic way........They are smart because some of us are dumb enough to allow them to divert our attention from the real issues..

I will admit Bush may actually be greater then Clinton. The stuff Bush gets away with is truely amazing and give the man some credit he and his people are brilliant. Jacomo, you are totally correct, I was seeing the same thing myself. Gas prices goes to the roof, so how do you get people minds out of it, just play the race card by pushing the immigration issue as one point, because affirmative action has been settled by the Supreme Court.
What do the stupid immigrants groups do they push the National Anthem in Spanish pissing off more folks who were on the sidelines on this issue. Worst yet, help the ignorant and racists MinuteMan movement. On top of that, you get an immigrant strike and people on the streets and what happen certain folks get uncomfortable and make them folks feel that America is being taken from them. Creating paranoia and hate with the economic impact being ZERO from this bullshit strike. At the end of the day, oil prices are now at $75 a barrel a rise of about another 3 cents in 72 hours. Notice that did not make the news but it did occurred.
Another reality note, some folks need to use their heads. How in the hell can this country round-up 12 M illegal immigrants and ship back without realizing the human toll, economic impact, financial strain, legal battles, bad PR, and total costs of this stupidity. MONEY speaks more then BULLSH*t here. My take on this whole issue.
Even the Dominicans try their famous round-ups with no success. There are more Haitians in the DR now before they created the 2,000 - 50,000 roundups they do annually. Reality is when you are hungry with no hope, guess what you will find a way even if hell comes upon you. |

Daphnee,
Pertinent issues? No disrespect to the gay community but I could care less whether or not two dudes or two females are allowed to get married. What's important to me is the $3.50 a gallon I'm dishing out to fill up my tank, job creation, secure environment, and my fellow soldiers that are dying for an unjust cause. I could care less what grown folks do in their bedroom.
The immigration problem has been an ongoing issue for years, why do you think they are now bringing it to the forefront? Simple my dear, to divert attention from the real issues.
Why do I blame Bush? Simple, the theory of diversion was engineered by President Bush's brain Karl Rove. The economy is doing bad, blame 9/11. No healthcare for poor Americans, talk about gay marriage. Gas prices are going up, talk about illegal immigration. The real issues are never addressed. Sadly enough, their strategy is working to perfection.
I'm pretty sure that you know the mainstream media is controlled by right wing neo-cons. Guys like Turner, Rupert Murdoch among others are getting a lot of $$$$$ from right wing groups and corporations to spin everything in the favor of the GOP's platform. The degree of separation between the mainstream media and the GOP is very thin. Therefore placing blame on the media alone would be like cutting a tree without extricating its root. ....

So am I to solely blame Bush and Rove for the media focusing so much attention on these issues. and no one is saying the issues that you brought up aren't valid but this whole conspiracy thing is a stretch isn't it. The media will report what's popular and I also agree that when confronted with the issues about our dependency on foreign fuel and Iraq there's always a different topic that comes about but the American public is to blame as well. We've accepted this and we voted him in...what did you expect, an about face??? _________________ "Mwen di non, AYITI PAP KRAZE!!!!" |
