There are a lot of unwritten rules that are highly coveted in every society. Now, to sing the national anthem in Spanish is a total disrespect of one of those unwritten rules. Imagine others singing the various latino conntries national anthems in English. Do you think they would appreciate that? I highly doubt so.

Secondly, the whole issue of immigration lies in the tenaments of allowing undocumented folks the right to legally integrate in American society. How are you integrating when you are purposely singing the national anthem in another tongue. In my view, stupid and gives the hardcore racists a theme to conjure up folks they would not typically support them. In life there are things not meant to play with and that being one of them.

The argument that English is not the official language of this country is accurate. On paper, however, in all of its business and legal transactions English is the language used.

In the US, you have the choice to fill your taxes in either english or spanish (http://www.irs.gov)
A lot of federal sites now have a spanish version, because as Track pointed out: english is not the official language of the US, it's just the most widely spoken language. Meaning if spanish becomes the most widely spoken language in the country (at the rates things are going this is possible), it may be used to replace english as the de-facto language of the country. Right now it is very close to becoming a co-defacto language (some would say it has already become.

I lol'ed so hard the first time I read about this... to tell you the truth, I don't care about it that much, it sounds weird but so did the kreyol version of Haiti's anthem when I first heard it. I can see however how americans may be pissed at this.

But my comment is still standing. Even if it's going to be the most widely spoken language (which I doubt when you're leaving/working in the US you should be able to speak his most widely spoken language...English...), american english is here to stay.

While Englsish may not be technically hte official language, like boulevard said, it is the de factoofficial language.

What this means is that, even though it has not been written on paper, Enlgish is in fact the official language in everyone's maind.

A lot of people are not aware that the consitution does not recognize an official language. Everything here is conducted in English.

Therefore, while it may be admissible in court, I think singing the Star-Spangled Banner in spanish is a big slap to the United States, especially sinse they have changed some of the words to meet their own agenda.

Quite frankly, I think it makes Hispanics feel that they have more of a right to be here, not learn the language and the ways of this country, and have the country bend it's rules to adapt to their needs.

I am an immigrant as well, so don't think that I am anti-immigration. But immigrants should adapt to the way of living of this country, not the other way around.

I think this thing has been blown way out of proportion, are people gonna sing the National Anthem in Spanish? Hell NO!!! It was just a producer trying to make some noise with that whole saga about the immigrants, and come out with the track, it's not like the Star-Spangled Banner is being sung around the country in Spanish or anything like that. The English version (lyrics) of La Dessalinienne can be found on the net , I won't be surpised if the music version is out there as well. Poze people.

First of all they have a right to remake any song that they want...however there is no way in Hell that those white folks in the capital will ever approve such a thing....

Sencondly, for those who haven't heard it yet let me just say that its not going anywhere in my opinion....the song is not translated word for word, Wyclef vocals really made the song uncredible (I love the guy and what he means to our country but I felt embarassed by him in this product) and the whole song ws more like showcasing the talent than the actual patriotic words.

Oh by the way they got a Remix, yes I said remix with a 11 year -old Reggaethon artist....LOL Unbelievable
