The best advice came from my mom in a powerful letter she wrote me on my 18th birthday "le bonheur est présent et non futur"

My late paternal grandmother: respekte tèt ou avan tou
toujou kinbe pa janm lague pcq sa bondieu sere pou ou lavalas paka pote li allé

pa okipé moun kap fè jalouzi..zin, palé ampil...fè zaffè'w and keep your head up!
she had so many of those she was the greatest

my mother: live your life dont let it passs by you
be true to yourself and your convictions
dont be afraid of change
she always says that knowledge is nothing without imagination to put it to good use
she also has so many great advice!

my father: nobody is perfect on this earth just be the best that you can be
he also always says that perfection kills beauty
never rush anything and I could go on

My father was always one to give me, and all five of his children great advice, especially when I first came here in the states. Here are a couple:

This is a country of opportunity, but noone will ever give you anything. You have to work for it.

PA JANM PANTAN SOU ANYEN, NI INTIMIDE POU ANYEN

You are a young haitian, there are plenty of people waiting to see you fail, so you've got to work hard to prove them wrong.

You are beautiful, but that's not yor most important asset :it is your brain.

Don't ever think negative. That's the quickest way to go down.

You have to be better than everyone else. You have to be over qualified.

Don't trust people the first time you meet them. Judge their character first and do it throughly and efficienty.

MY FVORITE ONE, i couldn't believe my dad was giving me advice about dating:
If a guys asks you out, he pays. If you ask him out, be ready to pay.

I know this is a world of plastic, but always have some cash on you.

Si yon moun pa konn bay le ou pa genyen, ou pap janm bay le ou genyen.

WHEN I WAS COMING TO COLLEGE AND HE DROPPED ME OFF:
se lekol ou vin isit lan, every thing else is secondary.

Any man you're interested in should respect his mother.

HIS PERSONAL FAVORITE:
aux hommes bien nes la valeur n'attend point, le nombre des annees.

GOSH I COULD GO ON AND ON...

MY MOTHER HAD A COUPLE AS WELL

How much you love some one should not depend on how much they love you.

Respect a man and treat him like one, then he will be one and treat you right.

Don't let your experiences in this world make you angry, and tarnish your character. Stay true to who you are.

No matter what, keep on giving, your reward is not in this world.

Viv byen ak tout moun, especially the young, ou pa janm konn kote ou pral tombe.

Don't ever try and fight your own battle. Je combatterai pour toi, et tu garderas le silence, says the lord.
(I saw my mother live this time and time again, and it has never failed.)

Revenge is mine, says the lord.

Pa janm kenbe moun sou ke ou, no one is worth it.
