The more I read you guys, the less I realize I know
Kunta, if you can pick up: (quote)
"Shedly is the only HMI drummer of my generation that use the high snare to give that timberelas feel. I can pick up Shedly on any project, because the way he uses the high snare. He is one that don't sleep on the high hats like most drummers in HMI."
Chapo ba, because my ears are farrrrrrrrr from being that trained yet. _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Can someone post a clip example of what they mean by all this. I am understanding a bit of the reading but not really at the same time. |

DCKompa here is an example:
This is PLAISIR VACANCES by SHLEU SHLEU (SHLEU SHLEU A NEW YORK ALBUM). The first half on the song shows you the kale Senbal style we know of. The second 2:25 minute into the song, shows the snare style most compas bands used to use for their heavy swing. Kale Senbal did not pick up steam until the mid 70s.

Now here is another style that is still in use in Zouk, and Compas/Cadance-lypso, and Antilles style of compas. Les Loups Noirs was a power house band in the lesser Antiless. Ciceron (Bassist) stated the band influence a lot of bands in the lesser Antilles. Listen to the drum you can hear the Kata (Cadanc3) rythm Zouk is famous for. This is "Haiti Biguine" by Les Loups Noirs (TOUJOUR album).

Great post but I just had a question, how many of our drummers can actually read musical rhythym, past or present? I have a friend of mine that is part of the University of Alabama marching band and he has countless of music sheets for his drums. I wonder if we give those sheets to Ritchie or Shedly, or Herma Nau, can anyone of them play these pieces or do all of our dummers play by ear or feeling? _________________ Artist will shine and stumble after their prime,

kremas most of the old school drummers were not just drumers, they were percussionist (drum, timbelas, and the gong). How many drumers can make the change? _________________ OU VLE LAVE LAJAN, LAGE L NAN MAYTAG LA

Herman Nau does know how to read. Do not under estimate musicians of the HMI, a lot of them do know how to read music.
Staff, Great work as usual… I don’t know if you mentioned this but since the birth of Konpa for about half a decade the drummers were playing on a timbales setup or should I say there were no drummers …. Just timbales players |

MERIDIONAL DES CAYES probably was the only band in the 70s and early 80s still playing with a timbelas and no drum set. _________________ OU VLE LAVE LAJAN, LAGE L NAN MAYTAG LA

If he wants to show his stuff and make a believer out of me, then do not hide in studio... show me live just like RORO IS DOING...
Talking about cymbal.... who is better than him in the HMI.... NO ONE....
