*KOMPA MAGAZINE: KLASS/NU LOOK....is kind of like the TABOU/SKAH-SHAH of this generation in terms of rivalry.....would you agree or disagree with that assessment? THEY DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH EACH OTHER.....Not sure if it's similar to TABOU/SKAH-SHAH back in the heydays of YOUR rivalry...

FANFAN TI BOT: "Well it took a long time before Tabou and Skah Shah played together. It was long overdue. When we finally played at Brooklyn College."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: Are the rivalries SIMILAR? Was there animosity between both camps for years...or it was all HYPE for the public?
FANFAN TI BOT: "Well it's normal as at this stage as each band is trying to be the best in the industry. It's a dog eat dog market."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: It's basically IMPOSSIBLE in the HMI for 2 top bands that are actively competing against each other to be "FRIENDS"?
Unwritten rule?
FANFAN TI BOT: "They can be very cordial to each other but deep down inside it's a war . That's our mentality .Anybody who says otherwise is a hypocrite."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: Do 2 bands that are COMPETING against each other..."WANT" to see the OTHER BAND "do well"....EVEN if it means "NOT AS GOOD" as them...or they would rather see a rival band "KASSÉ BÈK" li...sort of speak?
FANFAN TI BOT: "There can only be one number one. This is the way we feel and this is the way the fans think also. Why do you think there so much fight going on during the Carnival. Based on my personal experience it goes as far as boycotting the sound system of the rival band.

I had that experience recently at the Barclay Center. I knew it was going to happen that day but there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Djakout and Tabou were the victims that day."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: Victims of which BAND or BANDS?
FANFAN TI BOT: "Tabou, Kassav, Wyclef, Djakout at the Barclay Center. Tabou and Djakout were the only two bands that were not allowed to have a thourough sound check that day. Our fans were pissed and we were pissed too. When it comes to "Djazz étranjé" our promoters don't have the guts to stand up for their local bands. Haitien toujou ap flaté etranje se konsa yo levé nou . That's the way they raised us. We sometimes refuse to express ourselves in creole in fear of offending people who do not speak Creole.

When I go to Santo Domingo the DJs don't play Konpa because we are in the room but us we play all kind of music . You can hear music from every Country of the World in Haiti . Konpa plays only in the morning between 9 and 12 pm."
