Hello Board,
A promised is a promise. And what a year this has been!
I have this for you; a post from way back, the first board; from latest times, you can tell because of the pics; we were able to post pics right about the end.
Although when I pasted it into the board you can not see the pictures.....but this is from the brown board.
I have many post saved under title, KM 1, 2, 3 and so for and some are saved under their original title. I give you my word, I picked this one up only because there was a title and easy to open. I have not read this post in years. I did not know it dealt PRECISELY with all these stuff I have been talk about this year.
The same people I dedicated to the D.P Express, David songs in my post review are showing here predominantly.
I promise to you, I just opened it up………. It is so spooky….and…this is not joke…..Ti Manno just has magic and power that keeps floating around through time in the most strange and wonderful way >>>>>>
>>>>>>>> Thank you guys for your good work that eventually led me to find the great artist; Ti Manno.
And >> Oh my, my…….…..
So Pat …………it is a beautiful day, isn’t ?.....
So Pat, you are such a Scorpio fan……….hum….interesting…….
I did not know about this one either…..for real………what a year!!!
Like I said before; I only memorize some stuff and saved the other for later…..
That is why I saved this post; to study in depth later…….………
You did read my Scorpio / Martino review? Did not you? …….you did….. right??...
You know I can not live without mi familia del kreyol………
If you have not read it please see it!! > Scorpio is so cool and Robert …..wow….just go and read it. Please…ok?
What is your Scorpio/D.P story, anyway?? I really want to hear it.
You surely love and adore the GEMINI ALL STARS DE TI MANNO!!!!!
By the way; one day before there was a board, over the phone; you told me that it was ok that I love a lot of bands but that I should have a favourite one because that is customary. Do you remember that?
OK. So I have it now; one dearly and loved band above all others. My favourite Konpa band >>> GEMINI ALL STARS DE TI MANNO!
Thank you for your consistent and continuous hard work, Pat.
Here its board. It is super cool. I hope you enjoy it! I did enjoy, specially reading it now and I learned a whole lot from it.
I have a few more posts………….in fact >>>>> a lot more ……..lol…….see u > have a great and productive day!

BEST COMBO GUITUARISTS OF ALL TIME...
by DJ Kreyol
Maybe this isnt a current thing in Konpa. But what I want to know, who are some of the best combination RHYTHM and LEAD guituarist in konpa.
Nothing sounds better when you have 2 guituarits "kap balanse konpa".
So Boxer, Pipirite, Kunta, Leon, Dynamite, PJ, and LeMomo help a young KONPA listener out.
I want to know, who you consider the best GUITUAR TAG TEAM.
I have a Nu-LOOK LIVE and its when Ti Polis and Laporte were in the group. When I really sat down and listened, I really started to APPRECIATE the combination of a lead and rhythm guituar.

1, Jeol Joseph and Reginald Jn Baptiste of Coupe Cloue. The more I listen to their style, the more I appriciate them more than the next duo. Just pick up any coupe cloue album you will see what I am talking about. MANBA is a heavy SWING style. It is called MANBA because the SWING (GROOV) moves like MANBA. I read somewhere Coupe Cloue had no idea the guitar style they were playing was a Senegal Soukous style blend with a little Mini Jazz and twoubadou style. Their style is like listening to the drum on the guitar.
2, Eddie woolly and Marcelin actually were the first to actually take the Mini-Jazz style Robert Martino and Nader started and stuff it in the rhytm section in the new Synthesize full band format. If you want to check their work out, pick up M PA PRAN KONTAK vol 1 and listen to the guitar work in SENSIB PA JOUE and APRANN PALE and from PALE PALE OU try to pay attention to the racing style in VERITE (ZEL SAPAT). Pay attention to how they mingled the Mini Jazz style in the back ground. The guitars were actually talking to each other on a different count than the rest of the band, but they met in the middle to creat a nice rhytm. DP used less MINI JAZZ guitar solo. DP EXPRESS, in my opinion, started the heavy guitar swing we know today by modifying what the next two started.
3, Robert MArtino and Nader are the innovators of the accompanied and lead, but when Konpa went synthesized, they did not change the MINI JAZZ guitar style. The guitar played the same role in the synthesized konpa format with a lot of guitar solos. It was not until Ti Kit joined Scorpio Universal the guitar style changes to match what was happening...LESS GUITAR MINI JAZZ SOLO.

Re: BEST COMBO GUITUARISTS OF ALL TIME...
My list
Robert Martino and Sinsin
Not in the Scorpio days...bur especially when they were in Gypsies. Their syle of kompa was heavily centered towards the guitar playing. Go listen to their interaction in the LA TULIPE album. Sinsin and Robert use a flamenco-like type of guitar playing that is just awesome.
Eddy Wooley and Claude Marcellin
Kunta said it all
Mario Mayala and Johnny Frantz Toussaint
Those two cousins played together from their young ages. They played together in some local bands, in SHLEU SHLEU and then SKAH SHAH. Since the sax was the premier solo instrument, Mario and JF had to play well of each other. Their best work together is in the MESSAGE album. Listen to their playing in AIDE'M RELE and POUR DEMAIN. They are amazing.
Dadou Pasquet and Jean Claude Jean
That collaboration did not last long (RESPECT and THE MASTERS), but it still stays for me as one of the best one. THE MASTERS is the most daring album that Tabou ever done. Also their best one in my opinion. Listen to INFLASYON and listen to the Ti Coq playing the accompagniment guitar...he almost takes the spotlight away from the superb guitar playing from Dadou

Re: BEST COMBO GUITUARISTS OF ALL TIME...
Q: Name your favorite "TI Claude" composition of all-time and why?
A: Wow. It’s tough. It’s as if you’re asking me which one of four kids is my favorite? (Laughs) There are some songs in my career that have left a signature on my work. "Pa pran contact" from my D.P Express days was a revelation in Haitian music. In Compas, you used to hear the same group of guitar solos over and over. I broke that trend in "Pa pran contact". It was free variation on the guitar. It opened a lot of doors in Haitian music. - Ti CLAUDE Marcelin's interview from the KONPAMAGAZINE INTERVIEW ARCHIVE
As you can see even in this interview, Ti Claude and DP EXPRESS tame down the MINI JAZZ guitar style which have set the path for the Konpa guitar style of today even the MACHAVEL style of System Band.

There is no contest; it has to be Elysee Pyranneau and Jn-Claude Jean of Tabou Combo. It is impossible to over state the extent to which they conciously blended their parts to create a stronger whole. They may not have originated the concept, but I have rarely heard it taken to the same level. Even the partials of the strings were taken into consideration, such that when the two parts were played together a third would emerge as if there were also a synthesizer playing along. That sort of modulation or heterodyning is almost impossible to capture on a recording, yet the reality of its existance is readily demonstrated by the ease with which someone as adept as Ernst Marcellin was able to fit in--he could hear that the keyboard parts were pretty much already arranged for him, all he had to do was listen!
Peace.

Paul,
it takes a real musician who really knows and loves his music to pay attention to these nuisances, and play along with the other musicians to accommodate them in a way that brings about a perfect whole. Hats off to Elysee Pyranneau and Jn-Claude Jean. Tabou is not a band that I listened to a whole lot, but I must give those guys their credit.

Ti Boxer,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you were referring to the _nuances_
OTOH, considering the sound pressure necessary to make that kind of intermodulation work between two guitar amplifiers, you may be right about the _nuisances_
Peace.

Since DJ KREYOL's question was only addressed to the members above, I'll just assume that he thinks that the members that he asked are the only ones that know of this subject.
Maybe there are others on the board who also have an opinion on this, and who also listen to old school, or have done so in the past?
Well...Just MY OPINION.....Since I've been listening to Haitian music since the mid-70's at a very young age, all I will say is nobody beats the team of
ROBERT MARTINO and SINSIN (Gypsies/Scorpio)
I could be bias because I was a Gypsies and Scorpio fan, but that is truly how I feel.
Other ones on the table:
*Tabou's Elysee Pyronneau and Jean Claude Jean. These two could be playing two different lines altogether that you think would not match, somehow, they always made it make a lot of musical sense. If I wasn't such a fanatic of the Gypsies and Scorpio, THEY would have been my first pick. Just check out all the Tabou albums before Elysee's departure.

excuse my typo brother. I had to attend a meeting and was typing in a rush. You're right, I did mean to write "nuances." Good catch!
Pat,
I don't know why I thought you were a DP Express fan back in the days, unlike me. It's great to know you were down with "bet la!"

Re: BEST COMBO GUITUARISTS OF ALL TIME...
Pat,
Despite what I said about it being no contest, I have to agree that the Martino-Sinsin combo is awe inspiring. No doubt there is a bit of bias on my part since I was able to observe Coq and Elysee in action at close quarters and collaborated with them for five albums.
What tips the scale for me is how Coq and Elysee were able to blend such radically different approaches to the guitar into a unified arrangement. Elysee worked from a classical point of view, whereas Jn-Claude has studied Flamenco and Samba very closely. They took these differences and made of them a strength, rather than letting them merely conflict and tear the music apart. Lazier musicians might let such nuances become a nuisance [thank you, Ti Boxer ] instead of an opportunity for growth.
Peace.

Leon, lazier musicians would go as far as to say that the song isn't good, or that the other guitarist is not a good guitar player (he doesn't have the right style), or they may even say that the band is outdated and not "commercial enough." It's amazing the excuses lazy musicians bring forth, instead of focusing and working hard to create good music.

I want to hear a band with Gary Josama, Jean-Claude Jean, Ralph Conde, Makarios, both Martinos (father & son), Dadou Pasquet & Elysee.
Yves Abel ("SUB-ZERO") could play bass & Reginald (Miami) or Robinson (NYC / Strings drummer) could be the drummer. No need for anyone else -- not even vocals, horns, gongist, tanbou or keys.
I'm talking about ALL of these guys together onstage at once playing off, around & with each other.
It would either be an exciting cluster-f*%k, or a beautiful musical experience -- either way, I'd pay lots of money to see it. BUT, they would have to all be playing on the same song at the same gig.
It'll never happen. Just a fun thing to imagine -- that's all.
OH, and Carlos Santana could sit in as well (if he DARED, that is)... Same goes for Jacob from Kassav'... He would be too intimidated to even BRING his guitar, though...

Ken don't be surprised one of the orginal Mini-Jazz legend is getting ready for a come back. I used to hear Eddie's skill wnet down, but from what I have heard...it is actually way better since he was actually teaching music at the university level. _________________ OU VLE LAVE LAJAN, LAGE L NAN MAYTAG LA

Hey Kunta!
PLEASE forgive my ignorance -- you are referring to Eddie Wooly, right? I'm not as up on my HMI guitarists as I need to be, I'm afraid...
I mean, I KNOW Eddie Brisseaux! But, that's another instrument & another topic! And, by the way, Brisseaux is a great trumpet player, but that (again) is not what we're talking about here...
I STILL want to hear that band I listed with 8 guitarists, a bass & a drummer. It'll never happen, but I can WISH, can't I?
While I'm wishing for pipe-dreams, how about a Tabou gig where every horn player that ever played in the band is up there at once? Imagine the possibilities! Dirty Dozen Brass Band could KISS OUR BUTTS! Tabou's stuff is harder anyway!
Anyway, back to combo guitarists...
