 |
|

_________________________________________________________
With the NU LOOK CD a few weeks away from being 2 years old; the majority of the people will say that the CD has done well for the group. Right now NU LOOK is easily among the TOP 3 most popular bands in the market if you ask around (The ranking of whether they are 1,2, or 3 will differ depending on who you ask). Their latest CD "I GOT THIS" has done the job for the group......
Having said that, always one to look at different angles, we can tell you that in our opinion, ARLY LARIVIERE DID 3 MAJOR MISTAKES ON THIS CD. The fact that AS OF RIGHT NOW, he did NOT do 3 VIDEOS FOR 3 KEY DEMOGRAPHICS is simply a head scratcher to me. I find it absolutely mind boggling to tell you the truth.
It would have been very long odds to bet against Arly Lariviere NOT passing the grade in terms of releasing a CD after the departure of PIPO for Klass; left him as the LONE FRONTMAN in front of Nu Look. To bet that he would not have another hit or two in a formula that he has mastered for several years now PLINYIN LOVE", would be ridiculous. He has proven once again that he "GOT THIS" like he said on the CD cover...
NO VIDEOS for the songs "LA VIE A DEUX"; "BUSTED"; and "L'AME SOEUR" to me is letting an opportunity slide by.
*LA VIE A DEUX: When you have the chance to have Zouk legendary superstar TANYA ST VAL on a track; you don't think twice about it...YOU RUN AND DO A MUSIC VIDEO with that. What that does is open up the Zouk and other international markets that might be closed to Nu Look. I am positive that many TANYA ST VAL fans might still have no clue, or perhaps might not be too familiar with Nu Look or Arly Lariviere.
Yes I understand that Nu Look HAS entered the Zouk market; but that does NOT mean by any means that they have everybody that they CAN or MIGHT have. A video for that song would certainly have been a major marketing COUP for that part of the world.
Ask T-VICE and CARIMI what they did in regards to JOCELYNE LABYLLE and TINA LY in the songs "J'aimerais the revoir", and "A TES COTES". (Even though Carimi messed up by not doing one with Princess Lover for the song "Carry Me".)
*BUSTED: This song goes the Kizomba route, as well as the YOUNG PEOPLE "La Jeunesse" route. Another market as well for Lariviere could have been explored; and the opportunity to connect with the young crowd by being HIP. Why a video has not been done for this is beyond me. He easily could have been making room in his Nu Look booking calendar for ANOTHER CROWD based on this one alone.
*L'AME SOEUR": Those tired of hearing Arly Lariviere with his "PLINYIN LOVE" music, would have this one to chew on. HAPPY LOVE MUSIC. ANPIL MOUN RINMIN MIZIK HAPPY LOVE, and this surely would have been another angle for Arly Lariviere to attack them on musically. A beautiful song who is slowly dying on the CD as a "MIZIK POU CD A SEULEMENT"....whereas it has the opportunity to be SO MUCH MORE.
Maybe Arly thinks he is "TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED" in terms of being bothered to push these 3 key songs....but if you ask me....MAJOR MISTAKES on the part of ARLY on these 3.
DON'T JUST BE SATISFIED WITH BEING CONSTANTLY BOOKED in the HAITIAN MARKET.......THINK of the international markets as well...especially for the future. Ask many of our LEGENDARY BANDS such as Tabou, Skah-Shah, Magnum and others, how well the ANTILLES market is serving them right now....even if they might not be as active in the Haitian market side of things. KREYOL PALE...KREYOL KONPRAN.

Yeap, wasted opportunity by Carimi.
In Arly's case, I don't think it's too late. The band, well Arly can still capitalize on the track and produce a video for the La Vie A Deux. It's not too late Arly. _________________ Bat Chyen An Tan'n Met Li

Felt like you read my mind reading this post even tho i said a lot of those in a comment about a similar post....only he knows why..only Arly knows why..maybe he is satisfied with the older generation thats behind him(moun ki konn apresye mizik ki pap tande mizik just pou beat ak groove),paske lew panse ak yon video pou Busted which could have a very sence of humor into it avek yon atis jenès la deyèl enfin......apre sa ou pran lame sœur kote yon moun ki pa renmen atis la paske se li panse se plenyen li konn plenyen selman...again anko kiyes mwen ye pou opinyon mwen matters |

Pat,
Sa c yon bel analiz wi sou NL. To me he should have had a video on: I got this. Considering he is the sole front man of his band. That would have been a boost for his image as well. In all, this cd is good but not as good as the confirmation or the previous cd: big mistake, mwen pa sonje tit la.
Antouka, the man has a lot on his plate. He just has to manage the bal numbers from this point forward.
Now, I am waiting on Klass cd analysis for sure!
A side note: You have been fair as far as I see it. I used to think otherwise.🙏🙏🙏 _________________ SHAH

To keep NL competive, I got nothing but respect 4 Arly. Love him or hate, this guy is great at what he does.
I think they should never had a VDO 4 WAT. Maybe, that's where they go wrong. Also, remember NL se pa yon band ki kon'n tro focus nan depatman sa tou. How many VDO's they had 4 the comfirmation's CD? _________________ NAP MÉTÉ LÒD NAN DÉZÒD AK ANPIL KLASS |

As always, Pat is genuinely interested in the HMI and its progress. This is why he is always giving free suggestions and pretty damn good ones.
I am with Pat 100% on La Vie A Deux and Busted (my daughter's favorite) and disagree 100% on L'AME SOEUR (Those tired of hearing Arly Lariviere with his "PLINYIN LOVE" music, would need more than one music to give him a break as in jumping on Arly's bandwagon (Ask yanvaloo...lol), therefore the ROI (Return On Investment) is not there.
Needless to say 3 videos may cost in the $30,000 to $45,000 range and 99% of the time Arly (Arly wi yo di'w, read my lips...lol...no pun intended) would rather go back to his studio and start producing a new CD (a new set of Hits). To his credit, he can do it.
Arly's rationale is probably: If Nulook cannot afford to release the videos (4 to 5 of them) within 6 months of releasing the CD, it is not worth it, better use that money for studio/rainy days as the bands will go through slower programmed days. A Qui la faute?
I mean we saw the same thing in the confirmation CD where "A Qui La Faute" got wasted in the area of extra publicity/exposure in watching its video on youtube. It is almost a case of the chicken and egg (what came first thing...Hit->Video or Video->Hit and timing and cost kicked in
Big Mistake by all bands if you asked me. When I have a party at home, I used my projector and played the official video over the wall while we are dancing and I spent less time explaining to our guests (the foreigners) what the music is about. You can't tell me that Arly is not watching "Is It Real" (Nu Look) Youtube Viewers stats...so every day, with the video posted nulook has the potential to catch a new fan ready to stop by at their next show.
Our last videos (at least the past 3 years) are "story telling" and some almost "language independent" (Ex fresh in my mind: She's a boy by 3jes or Libre D'aimer Djakout...Just roll them, a russian will get the idea
Oh Boy, Arly and Tania St Val will surely sustain the test of time.
Who should pay? The band? Sponsors? Groupies or die-hard fans collecting money together?..That is the sad financial reality of the HMI, it seems. $5000 to $10,000 a week for 10/12 guys not leaving enough for a $100,000 Budget for videos over 2 years. I guess, we will spend our lives wondering what-ifs when it comes to superb songs from our bands that will never see the daylight in video mode...Oh well!!!!! _________________ My future's so bright I've got to wear shades |
