Simply put, we moved from "Marchand de culture" to "Marchand de bals" with zero organization, zero vision, and only a hand full of guys (if that many) living decently through music.
Yes, we have seen flashes of the good days (tabou/Skah-Shah etc) through the success of Tvice/Zenglen/Carimi/Nulook/Klass in the international market, but because of haitianities (if he can do it, I can do it too similar to the tax business or Multiservices, lack of leadership, hypocrisy/insecurities, etc..) they are just flashes: One day you are in NBC or Nouvelle Caledonie or in the Antilles or Zenith promoting our culture, the next day and most the other days in Bassin Manyan.
I would go on record to say that 95% of the active musicians of over 45 years old wished they did something different with their lifes (go to law school, medical school, engineering, nursing school, Computer school..etc...). When they compare the guys they grew up with and the level of security they have with retirement/401k, insurance, assetts etc...of course that makes plenty of sense...I believe I heard Shoubou commenting that way in one of his interviews (when he had trouble finding money to do his mom funerals) and we are talking Shoubou here a megastar in our music.
Lot of talents within the framework of a great leading culture in the 70's...the new guys just f?cked it up by not adjusting with the times (a changing world politically/economically: Min'm ti bagay la pa maché encore), besides the technology side where I can give them a little bit of credit, although there also, they messed it up again. _________________ My future's so bright I've got to wear shades |
