We asked this interesting question to T-VICE and ZENGLEN drummers MARVENS BASTIEN and KENNEY CENAT.

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: Do you think drummers in the HMI get the right amount of props for their contributions to a band...or no? Elaborate

*KENNEY: "No, I really don't think we get the props we rightfully deserve. The drummer is the backbone of the band & in kompa gouye a se nan min bateur a li ye ak jan lap karese (kale) cymbal la. Most of the times it's the singer(s) they notice, or solo keyboard kap fet. Unless you're Richie where you can go up front to sing, ap fe animation etc... moun yo pa vreman acknowledge or recognize drummer a ki se metronome djazz la.

For example siw ap tande nulook... chachou se moteur nulook. Se li ki bay djazz la drive, but he hardly gets acknowledged. In djakout se swing RORO sou cymbal ki few danse kompa raboday la, but si se pa animation lap fe, ou pap men sonje si se batri'l jwe. So .. no man, we don't get the props nor the respect."

*MARVENS: "Well I think it all starts with you in any band top or upcoming. In my opinion, besides the maestro, the drummer has the most important role on stage. You are the heartbeat, the back Bone. If you fall off, then everyone falls off. It's hard for you not to get noticed if you are a kick ass drummer. Pa bliye Haitians dance to anything in the rhythm section. lol it's in our blood."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: If you had to say in terms of IMPORTANCE musically speaking in a band...what position would you rate the DRUMMER?
KENNEY: "Its difficult to assign a "position of importance" in a band because music is a melange of instruments that produce a harmonious sound... the drums cannot play by itself, the same way bass la paka jwe pou kont li (unless its an individual show) but as a band tout instrument yo gen menm impotans... menm gong nan kap fe kopkodop la gen anpil enpotans.... on drummer kompa paka jwe san gong... so they are all equally important."

*KOMPA MAGAZINE: After the maestro...you are saying that the drummer is MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVEN SINGER?
MARVENS: "Well as far as musically speaking, of course the singer is the super star; but the drummer keeps the band in sync. If the drummer is off the whole band will be off."

*KENNEY CENAT is Zenglen's drummer. MARVENS BASTIEN is T-VICE's drummer for those of you who might not know.

bon m panse gen kelke fakte ki rantre an liy de kont wi,
depan de nom drummer a, e osi depan de ki fonksyonl nan band nan.
yon drummer nan kalib Richie, shedley, roro, ti chanel pa ka pa jwen recognition, poukisa??
Richie ekri, li prodwi then li anime osi pandan lap jwe ki pa fasil pou drummer fe e li sil on beat, shedley pa anime pandan lap jwe but san li pa gen band, li ekri li prodwi , frap band nan se nan pla menl, roro a ti chanel anime, e zafe kale cymbal la wooooo neg sa yo pa gen parey e yo gen yon energie on stage son bagay infernale

In music certain are just fillers, decoration, and icing on the cake but the drum and base are the foundation. The same reason in Football average fans don't understand the importance of the D line and O Line
