____________________________________________________

KANAVAL IS OVER...Kanaval came to an abrupt unfortunate end after the accident that took place on BC's float. With the abrupt end to kavaval; REALITY HAS SET IN for a lot of the HMI bands, as well as those PART-TIME musical groups who only seem to pop up when kanaval time is here. It's now time for the HMI big boys to once again take over the normal happenings of the business.

AFTER KANAVAL is usually a KEY TIME in the HMI in terms of strategy. It is around that time that many bands go on SURVIVAL MODE, and others prepare for a new CD; and others go for other strategies to remain relevant. The next few weeks/months are CRUCIAL for many bands in the business as they prepare for the SUMMER and rest of the year activities.

We'll give you a preview.

*KLASS: The hottest band in the business; and now comes word that their new CD is about to drop in the next few months. The anticipation is extremely high for this one, and you best believe that not only fans are waiting on this...other bands as well. There are those that can't wait to find out if they are about to deal with another KLASS MANIA; or if the sophomore jinx will claim another victim. Very important moment for the group...so YES there is a lot of pressure based on the expectations...Let's see what happens.

*NU LOOK: NU LOOK had a huge impact in 2014 with that King Arly moniker; now comes time where they have to try and BALI GAZ in terms of the group's momentum. The CD just went over the 1 year mark just a few months ago, and now Arly and the band have to figure out how to keep interest in the band going in terms of popularity, until the unveiling of his group's next CD. In the old days, we certainly would not dare think that we would expect a new CD from NU LOOK after 2 years (DECEMBER 2015); but the group just might have to do that to fend off the competitors that are lurking around the kingdom.

*DJAKOUT#1: One of the groups looking forward to the AFTER KANAVAL period because they just dropped a new CD that seems to be doing its thing on the market. Expect them to drop the already completed music video for "LIBRE D'AIMER" very soon to try and restart the engine again on the right track. Many complaints about there being no promotion for the CD, so in that sense, the group needs to be very careful about that; unless of course they already feel that they don't need the promotion. Time will tell what is going to happen with the group. Will they challenge KLASS and NU LOOK, or maybe even take over the top spot (many are saying they are the 3rd most popular band in the HMI right now); or will the momentum turn out to be a false alarm, as proven by a couple of dates in Boston and NYC that were NOT too good for the group recently. Time will tell.

*KREYOL LA: The CD has apparently been done since December, and from what we can gather, they made a decision to hold on to it until after kanaval. Now comes the moment of truth. Will this CD have the same impact as their last studio CD or more, where they did very well on the market; or will it take another route and get a different result? I guess we are about to find out.

*ZENGLEN: "Zenglen is turning yet another chapter in their history with the recent inclusion of two new singers in the fold. Talk about perfect timing as the group is also about to drop a brand new CD set to hit the market before the summer. Will this new duo of FRERO and KLEMAY get the REZILTA that Zenglen so badly needs; or will the group be dancing in the dark once the dust settles?

*GAZZMAN DISIP: This group is in a very delicate situation which can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. They are so down the HMI ladder that no one is expecting too much from them; which in a way could be a blessing in disguise that will allow them to fly under the radar in terms of expectations. On the other hand, they also know that dropping a CD that does nothing for the band and their booking situation, can actually be a disaster waiting to happen. They CAN'T afford to fail on this one..so in a way, the pressure is also on. We'll see what comes out of it. It wasn't too long ago when they were on top of the HMI; now it FEELS like ages ago. We'll see what happens.

*T-VICE:A new CD is set to hit the streets in 2015, and it certainly would come in handy for the band if they were to score on this one. The last CD by most accounts did not deliver the "KITEM VIV" cd status when they shut every other band down; so they are also under pressure to get some sort of result on this one. The advantage that they seem to have over other bands that might be in the same situation as them; is that they have a proven BRAND/NAME; having said that; don't get it twisted, the crew KNOWS that this next CD is very very important...so they can't afford to sleep. T-Vice KNOWS what time it is.

*CARIMI: One thing is clear on their last CD; they seem to have a hit with "Baby I Miss U"; but for some reason, the impact from the CD is not being felt like you know a Carimi HIT CD can. What is the problem? For the rest of the year, I can see the band trying to continue selling the CD with their LIVE performances. If they have other strategies, I guess we'll find out just like you guys. Let's see what goes down.

*5 ETWAL: This group was expected to be doing damage on the HMI circuit by now with their excellent CD....WHAT HAPPENED? Is it too late to turn the tide; or will NOW be the time that the group will finally reap the fruits of their labor? Is their a "LIVE" tag that the group is struggling to PROVE or SHAKE OFF; or is it no marketing for the CD; or is it something else? They were predicted by MANY to be one of the ruling bands right now after their CD; that is clearly not the case; so the next few months will be very important in seeing where THAT 5 Etwal tide will turn.

*GABEL: "New CD released at around the same time as the world cup last summer, less than 1 year old, so they have time on their hands to make something out of it. The group will be hoping that this is the one that takes them to the next level, instead of remaining where they currently are...or worse. They have videos in the works, so let's see what Gabel does with this one.

*DAT7: The most anticipated debut CD from an HMI group this year. Many bands, industry observers, and fans are waiting to see if the material will be up to par or not. They have recognized musicians (Always a plus in an upcoming new band); now, will the work on the CD reflect well on those musicians or not? After such a high profile divorce with their former employers; half the work is already done in terms of AWARENESS for the group; now comes REALITY TIME...will they pass or fail? Time will tell.

*KARIZMA: This is an opportunity for the group to score with their upcoming VIRUS CD. The time for games is over, it is time to show some SERIOUS INTENT. NYC is begging for a band to take control of the town; with Carimi NOT really seen as a local band, this group has had some time to claim the town..which they haven't yet. Will this CD do it; or will the opportunity go to waste; leaving the door open to others to claim the throne? A Suivre.

*HARMONIK: "The cd has been out over a year, yet it feels as if it is still a new CD because of the lack of marketing that has gone behind pushing the CD. Clearly the lack of a financial guy is hurting this great CD, but the group is still grinding to the point that everyone can clearly see they are better off now than they were a few months ago...but it is still not enough, as much work still remains to be done for the group and the CD. From MARCH until JUNE will be a very important time for the group as they prepare the groundwork to see what demand they get for a Haiti Summer tour; and from there, that could determine how the remaining months of their year goes.

*5 LAN: The band that many "regular" HMI bands and promoters TRY to dismiss; yet the reality is that they seem to always be booked. What many thought would be a fad, seems to be picking up steam; and guess what; they are about to drop their debut CD. If another GOUYAD CRAZE takes off after this CD drops, I suspect quite a few "regular bands" might not be happy about that because it means less booking coming their way; going instead towards 5 Lan.

*JBEATZ: Is the second JBEATZ CD having the same success/impact as his debut CD? It depends on who you ask; but the musician/producer will be focusing on trying to push his latest CD some more for the rest of 2015.

*X-TASSY: This is the new band that is buzzing the industry as we speak. With a brand new CD at their disposal, expect the group to keep on trying to push their product on the market.

*FASIL DE REGINALD CANGE: Reginald told us that the group will be based in Miami, and has plans of touring Haiti during the Summer. Expect the artist/group to drop at least one song on the market before the summer gets here. Will the second time be the charm for Fasil? A Suivre.

*DOLA MIZIK: It's time for this band to MAKE A MOVE. Despite the backing of 2 prominent personalities on the NYC scene as their management team, we can't really say that we've seen a difference of any kind. The band is NOT more popular than it was before management took over; which leads us to ask what EXACTLY are they doing for the band. This is another group who could take over the NYC scene...only that is NOT happening for whatever reason. What does the rest of 2015 hold? A suivre.

*PANIK: Evie Keys along with Fleurine and Joshua will have to prove if they mean business, or if this is just a band that is passing by. With a new CD set to be out after kanaval; the answer should be just around the corner.

There are other bands that might spring a surprise out of nowhere on us, so you just never know. Keep your eyes open because it is going to be a very interesting ride.

KM!

Excellent observation/breakdown Pat. I'm looking forward to all the new cds and I just hope the camaraderie and brotherhood I witnessed in the marches these last few days isn't just temporary because I truly believe our music is magical when our artists have healthy competition but build each other up as artists instead of trying to tear each other down.

Only time will tell.
