I like CaRiMi. I liked them from the very first listen of their first live album. I traveled many miles to catch their live performances. I continue to cheer them on whenever they represent our nation overseas because they do so with the utmost class. But CaRiMi dumped me--left me at the altar with mascara and tears streaming down my overly made up cheeks like a jilted bride. It's alright though. I survived.
I tried listening to their most recent album. CHIKABOOMBOOMBOOM!!!. sssiigghh! No puedo. Apparently I've moved on too! PAYBACK muth^$^$!!!!
While listening to Djakout's new album, I'm reminded why my relationship with CaRiMi wasn't bound to last. Lod nan Dezod is balanced: a delightful melange of raboday (Pesekisyon), Kompa love (Mwen Mouri), Mizik angaje (La Fwa) and a solid mid-tempo that harkens to the days of Djakout old (Saw pran se paw).
CaRiMi on the other hand has decided on an alternative strategy, a mix of sap and leve men anle that caters to the ladies, twenty-somethings and international market. I respect that. I even applaud it because it shows they're thinking (I guess). I do wish, however, that they would have kept me in mind; a little bone is all I ask. If I'm not worth that bone at least give the international crowd a small taste of a solid Konpa track. just one. They might surprise you and *GASP* LIKE IT!
Kreyol La did it with Fam Kreyol and Move Flanne, which I really appreciate but I hate Kreyol La...Just kidding; they're cool. Anyways, I'm rambling. Gotta get back to work.
And Oh. Whatever happened to Glenny's guitar? _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Finally somebody is brave enough to say what I have been thinking since the release of their last album.
there is no questions about it, the guys are talented and have enjoyed international success but they cannot forget about the folks who helped put them there.
12 songs on an album with no KOMPA TRACK? come on MAN!
(btw, Ill Nana is my favorite song)
No one is asking CARIMI to play like NU LOOK, KLASS, ZENGLEN or DJAKOUT... we just want them to play like CARIMI Of old.
their kompa was fresh, cool, new and improve, danceable with catchy melodies and ez hooks.
Even in Haiti, these guys have lost the huge fan base that they had built.
I just cannot understand why they refuse to produce 3 to 4 songs for their hardcore Haitian fan base. _________________ Knowledge Will Forever Govern Ignorance |
