KOMPA MAGAZINE: Your HMI music idol of all time is WHO? Tell us why.
ELI LAPOINTE: "The question would have to be in plural because there are many genres within our industry and i pay attention to most of them . Also since im different areas of the business, i happened to have an idol in each .
So my list goes like this
VOCALISTS
My all time favorite Kompa Vocalists are :
Gazmann Couleur and Reginald Cange .
The reasons:
Gazman, with his voice being kinda raspy, there are notes he manages to hit that are quite impressive . They would normally be out of his range .
The guy takes you on a journey everytime he sings a piece .
Reginald Cange on the other hand is the gifted child .
I can't even start to tell you the power this kid has on people's minds .
He delivers differently on every track he performs, yet it is marvelously done. He really has a soul like no other .!!!

SONGWRITERS
In the quality of a Songwriter, I have to say, two other names will comes up on my list.
They are :
Jean Herard Richard aka Richie and Arly Lariviere .
I honestly think these two are the pair of lungs of the HMI .
Their work is beyond impressive and the drive they show working at their craft shows clearly that if structure is put together, these 2 would be the top earning artists/producers in the biz.

STUDIO PRODUCTION
My Idols in Studio Production :
Nickenson Prud'homme, Fabrice Rouzier and Welmyr Jean-Pierre
Nickenson Prud'homme :
His sound defined the kompa world for nearly two decades and is still the number one flavor sought after in any kompa song.
Wether its an up tempo or love, Nick got the groove to make you go " Men Baay la !!! Cheri vin pran bon yayad !! Anmweyyyyyy ...! "
Welmyr Jean-Pierre
I think one will agree that the NewYorkAllStars album " Pou Lavi" is the classic album of the last 20 years . Even though the group broke up without enjoying the proper recognition they deserved , Pou lavi is definitely a masterpiece .
Not to mention the many participation on productions such as Lakol's " Ole Ole" or Phantoms " Pa Bouje" albums etc...
Fabrice Rouzier :
My mentor. Not very active lately , he still has given us one of the biggest project ever known in HMI.
Haiti Troubadour !!!
I don't think i need to say more .

GUITAR
Now in the Guitar department
Keke Belizaire is at the top of the list then Ronald Smith and Jean Claude Jean.
Keke is a mentor i had from a very young age without even meeting him yet. I remember as a kid i use to practice his solos and feel a sense of achievement everytime i'd play infront of someone , on a beat up accoustic guitar, and hear them say:" Ket, Piti ou sonnen menm jan ak Keke wi nan mizik le nap fe lanmou mizik mizik la ."
Then came the time for us to finally meet and work together . It was a dream come true . He kinda like that fat sound in a guitar in a certain guitar just like i do . I even play the same brand as him . Talk about influence ! We favorite Gibson guitars .
Then comes my all time favorite Roots Vocalist
Eddy Francois
To me Eddy is an entity put among us to pass on a message much more powerful than one would even realize .
In a song like :" Edem Chante" aka " Mounchowoulo" you can feel this energy, this power that basically reunites anyone who dares to listen. Another song is " Tribulation". A masterpiece written by Hugo Valcin and Eddy himself .
My list includes
Emeline Michel, Beethova Obas, Belo and Wanito as the all time favorites in solo artists .
These are my All time favorites.
