CARIMI "INVASION": OFFICIAL KOMPA MAGAZINE CD REVIEW!

*MEAN BIZNIS: Kick ass beginning to track. The "OK OK....All my ladies working hard need to get payed" part is gonna work well LIVE at parties big time. The song fulfills its purpose of having an uptempo rocker to kick off the cd. It will also do well Live as one of their uptempos. Lots of grooves to satisfy the dance floor enthusiasts. It's a great message as well to promoters who tend to shortchange the bands after their parties fall short in terms of attendance.

*ILL NANA: One of the tracks that caught my attention from the very first listen. It will do extremely well for the band on the Live setting...and on radio/clubs...(If radio allows the rated r content fly). It is different than the norm from CARIMI and that will appeal to the fans looking for something different. CARIMI "THUGS OF THE HMI"...This track is on point and is already a favorite of many out there. I certainly CAN see why. If kids are singing that "I be HITTIN' IT" part...you know you got something major in your hands. SONG and LYRICS GOLLLLL with this track. Another one of my favorites on the cd....NO DOUBT! Ti medames yo jwen ak bagay sa.

*CHIKIBOOM: The start feels like an American POP song until Mickael comes in with the vocals and the beat. This is the vocals that I like to see Mickael Guirand on...Begging/Pleading mode as it displays a different side to his vocal skills. This track is EXTREMELY CATCHY... and has some very nice catch phrases that will stick with the listeners. The topic about how someone is seen as NOTHING in the eyes of an ex once she has decided to move on with somebody else. "OU PASSE DANS LE PASSE WI LA...OU PA ANYINNN...ANYINNNNN". I absolutely loooooooove this track and even if you don't want it to, it will stick with you. "GADON'W DOULE....LI BOULE LI BOULE". ANMWEYYYYY. Mickael's best vocals on the cd.

*BABY I MISS U (With Mikaben): As soon as I heard it even before the cd came out, I felt that this song could be one of the top hits off the cd. Very easy/catchy mellow track with a universal theme/topic that anyone can relate to. MIKABEN scores again FOR and WITH the band. Will it be bigger than their last collabo "Fanm Sa Move"; only time will tell. "MWEN SENTI'M FEBLES....SOS....Mwen Pa gin GPS...SOVE'M". Will do extremely well for the group.

*CIA featuring Nia: This is a very fun track where composer Richard Cave does not do the fellas any favors with all these "secret codes" that are revealed to the ladies. RICHARD VAN'N TI MESSIEURS YO! (Lol). The track is also accompanied by a nice groove that is fun and danceable. NIA does a nice job as the female voice on this track as well. The keyboard groove on this track is sick.

*I'M A FREAK: This could be the song that becomes Carlo Vieux's most popular song that he sings lead vocals on in Carimi. He continues his thug/bad boy persona here on this track which the title clearly tells you what it's all about. The Haitian R.KELLY if you will. A very slow mellow joint that is very easy on the ears and hips "Ploge styleeee". One of our favorites on the cd.

*KITA NAGO: They went for the international world beat market on this one as reflected on the beat and other stuff. While many panicked when the song was first released; I knew exactly what they were doing, and I also predicted that those same critics would be the same ones jumping up and down for that same song LIVE. This song is catchy to a fault...as a matter of fact, I liked it as soon as I heard it...much more so than the BUZZ song that I never warmed up to. Genius move also teaming up with popular rap kreyol artist Izolan to help bring in more youngsters to the joint. Club and Live banger...and the critics will soon find out WHY the group went with this song "Kita Nago", and I suspect they will eat their words.

*KAT IDENTITE'M with Wanito: Richard Cave takes the lead on this one. Pure country beginning to this tune as it flows along the same range of tunes that we are accustomed to from the talented artist. While vocally Richard does nothing out of the ordinary, musically he goes totally out to the other side. I love the way this song is produced and the addition of Wanito in there brings it a different flavor as well. He will have the crowds singing out of his hands with this song as he follows the same Mikaben formula of having easy to sing choruses that even a 1 year old baby would love.

*NOSTALGIE: Song that promotes the beauty of Haiti, but at the same time sounds like it could be a minister of tourism commercial that falls in the same category as J.Perry's "Enjoy", or Mikaben's "Ayiti Se". Feel good type of song that will strike a nerve with many, especially those who are missing their country. On any cd that has nothing on there, this song would have been a huge huge song; but on this cd, if I am being realistic, while it will get love, it will be after the crowd has digested the majority of the other tunes. Nice feel good song though.

*LOVE DE TOI: Zouk artist FANNY J guest stars on this duet with Carlo Vieux. Reaching out to the Antilles market on this one and you can't fault the band for that. Cool song, but is not one of the ones that I am currently rewinding...maybe that might come later on. Solid song.

*APRES LE MARRIAGE: Some will NOT understand this, others will. Only CARIMI knows why this bonus track was included on the cd. I find myself vibing to that "OOOO OOO OOO" part, and I can imagine this can do well LIVE. Think of this as what Klass has for "BOOTLEG"...something different.
_________________________________________________________

*In my opinion "Baby I Miss U", "Ill Nana", "Chiki Boom", "Kat Identite'm", "Kita Nago", and "I'm a Freak" all have the possibility of becoming hits. A lot of factors will decide IF they will actually become that...most importantly THE PUBLIC.

*Richard Cave needs to switch it up a little bit in terms of the styles of songs that he sings. They all seem to resemble each other a bit in terms of the VOCAL DELIVERY "only"...I am not talking about music. Next cd maestro...switch it up...even though I love this track here and EXPECT it to do very well. All I am asking is for you to get out of your comfort/safe zone to try something else.

*I wish the guys would give Mickael MORE of the type of songs like "Chiki Boom", "Mwen Pare", "Player" where he is pleading/begging as he gives a different style of vocal that we're used to getting from him....and that is when he is at his best. Mike delivered as usual on this cd vocally.

*I was a little bit concerned that in trying to look for other markets, that it could be a possibility that the group would turn its back a bit too much on the HMI fans, I can tell you that there is NONE OF THAT here on this cd. Fanatik HMI jwen ak cd sa.

*It's very clear for all to see that the group is maturing musically...and I just love the direction that they are continuing to go for in terms of the KEYBOARD SOUNDS on this cd....NOT THE SAME TYPICAL ONES that we hear so often on Haitian records.

*Whoever did the SONG PLACEMENT on the cd (The order in which the songs are presented on the cd) knew exactly what he was doing. Very well done strategically. SE KONPRAN POU KONPRAN sa map di a because the order in which songs are placed on a cd can HURT the cd lots of times.

*I am going to be blunt on this and say that fans of other bands or musicians can try to be sarcastic and say "Kote Compas a", or "Sa se pa compas Direct" or whatever, all I can say is there must be a reason why Carimi has been and is still one of the top 5 bands in the HMI in terms of popularity. There must also be a reason why THEY are the ones getting noticed the most by the international market among our active HMI bands. There must also be a reason why they reached the top of the BILLBOARD and ITUNES charts with this cd. They have a plan and they know what they want, and how to go about it. Carimi "DO U" and stay true to yourself. Excellent work on this cd, and I will be very surprised if the bal numbers in the upcoming months don't reflect that. INVASION accomplished.

KM!
