We were made aware of a shooting that occurred at SOBS...shown on TV news reports, so we called up JUBE ALTINO to get the lowdown.

KOMPA MAGAZINE: How will the shooting at SOBS affect the club and Haitian Compas night?
JUBE: "Greetings Pat. Thanks for reaching out, we are all blessed and safe.

Regarding the shooting that occurred @Sobs. Well, after 32 years of consistent music, this was the first time we encountered this level of violence involving a gun. As you know Pat. Sobs is home to many genres of music, Hip Hop/ R&B / African/ Reggae/ Brazilian/ Haitian/ etc well, we had an urban show featuring a hip hop artist out of DC named "Fat-Trell". The show was going well, until two young cats from different clicks became intoxicated and got into it, and with alcohol in their system, the rest was a nightmare. However, our security was able to control the situation and it ended with 4 people getting injured, 3 shots in the legs and one woman was glazed by a bullet.

Now, clearly we are very alarmed and concerned over this incident and we will take all necessary measures to ensure that is the last time such unfortunate incident happens in the club. The Hip Hop police were on the scene, and since Sobs has a 32 years in existence, and never had a gun incident in the venue. The police and the powers there understood this was an isolated incident with some idiots who attempted to ruin it for everybody .

Well, as far this incident affecting the Kompa nights, I don't anticipate any major changes other than the tightening of our security across the board. And we will probably be more meticulous in our searches and also extend the searches to women and band members. But, sadly, shootings in nightclubs are not an anomaly. Sobs has been blessed for 32 years and now our luck has ran it's course, so now Extra Security will be a certainty.
We assumed full responsibility for the incident, because we shouldn't have booked this type of hip hop artists @the club in the first place. So it was a booking error as well and that will never happen again."

Mr Jube,

You said : <<we will probably be more meticulous in our searches and also extend the searches to women and band members >>.

I am assuming that your searching of band members doesn't include my '' dear Konpa stars ''.

I am ready to bet my life that my '' Konpa stars '' are not going around with guns on them, specially if they have to perform in a club. Then, your policy of searching band members should be applied to those ridiculous Hip Hop artists for whom I have no respect whatsoever; whether it is Jayzee or others. To me, the brand of Hip Hop the US stablishment is pushing forward is pure crap. The objective is obvious as well : destroy the afro communities' kids by engulfing their minds with trash rap. I challenge anyone to prove to me that that brand of Hip Hop that saturated the airwaves is not crap. It is all stupid negativity across the board. I think Hip Hop is US stablishment best weapon to ruin the African-American communities. The US stablishement couldn't find a better weapon. Using the very same members of the afro communities against the latter. That Hip Hop crap sould have been banned. Period. But as we can see that is not the case.

Anytime a promoter is dealing with that rap crap, they should know what to expect. And don't come and tell me all band members will be searched. Deal with your rap crap. Don't get my Konpa artists involved in that sh*%$@t pls. Make sure my Konpa artists are treated as true Stars pls. Make sure of that pls. And keep that rap crap out of your club. It is not worth promoting a sh*%$@t like that.

That Afro-American Rap or Hip Hop crap should heve been banned. Period.

Peace to you Mr. Jube.

STOP IT.

Would it be fair to call all Haitians bad or crap? There is always exception to any rule. I can see that you have issues with Hip Hop because of some negativity but you can't condemn the whole Art of Hip Hop as crap.

Shootings happen in Hail events as well. However, you are free to have your own opinion.

One more thing: you may have a typo in ESTABLISHMENT.Check your spelling.

Peace bro.
