MIAMI's COMPASFEST is THIS Saturday. KM speaks to the lovely SARAH BERTRAND of the Compasfest team in order to get you the latest.
1) What can we expect this year at Compasfest 2013?-
SARAH: For this year's Compas Festival you can expect to see some new performers making their first appearance on the festival stage, including fan favorites Klass and Anbyans. We are also working on a program that really highlights compas music and gives fans an opportunity to really enjoy their favorite bands. With Compas Fest landing on May 18th this year, we aim to highlight the history of our flag and the culture of our people on another level. You'll see.
2) Is there anything different that you guys are doing this year compared to last year or beyond?
SARAH: Well we are definitely trying to go with the less is more approach in terms of the lineup. We want to give the lineup an opportunity to perform the amazing show that they have prepared for their fans, and for the fans to get a chance to enjoy the entire line up.
3) Have there been any changes in the lineup or parties that we should be aware of or not?
SARAH: As of right now, there are two changes to the party line ups. The Friday Party at Moca Cafe will now be Nu-Look and Djakout. Also the Bouillon Night on Monday the 20th will now have a line up of Carimi, T-vice, and Disip. Please keep in mind that last minute unforeseen circumstances may occur, however we are set with this line up.
4) TRUE or FALSE, the BLACK PARTY is regarded or seen as the MONEY MAKER for COMPASFEST in terms of the parties. In other words, the TOP DOG of the compasfest parties. Why?
SARAH: Maybe- The Black Party is one of our largest parties, however with large events come larger expenses. Fans do love the Black Party event, it brings out the hottest bands and sets the tone for the festival weekend. It's the official kick off party. Everyone is there.
5) YOUR Best memory of COMPASFEST from all the years?
SARAH: So many memories I wouldn't even know where to begin. I think that's understandable after so many years.
6) Why do you think people keep coming back to it every year?
SARAH: This event highlights the Haitian culture like no other. We've gone from a culture that was unappreciated in the 1980's and early 1990's to gaining world wide recognition with people from all over the world becoming intrigued with our culture and joining in the celebration. Fans are excited to come out and enjoy the culture through music and food. It's a weekend of excitement for us by us. It's an amazing event, an amazing feeling.
7) One final word...
SARAH: See you at all the Compas Fest events this weekend!!! 15 Years and counting....
