The 2012 edition of the MIAMI COMPAS FESTIVAL left a lot to be desired on many fronts, as this will go down as one of the least favorable ones from their many years of doing this....but most of the blame must go to the rain.

The rain destroyed the festival's momentum and threw everything in disarray, BUT that must not be an excuse for all the bands that were promised, not to have gotten the chance to do something. At about 7 PM, stage manager Rodrigue Alcindor actually told me that TOUT JAZ YO AP PASE even though the rain got them to start the festival a bit later than what they had anticipated.

The fans that were around the press/media pit were extremely upset when CARIMI and DJAKOUT did not get the chance to play, one lady in particular was extremely vocal when she found out that Carimi would not be on the stage and one of the festival's hosts had a shocked face when he heard the outburst. NU LOOK was rushed off their set, and did not get the chance to play their mega hits (A Ki La Fot comes to mind...while "It Wasn't Meant to Be" got a cameo appearance), because they had to re-arrange what they were doing in order to make Mickael Guirand and Mikaben make an appearance.

Most years there is always the same issue in terms of TIMING/BANDS, and despite suggestions from fans and others that they need to trim the number of bands/acts that perform in order to better manage the time, these suggestions always never amount to anything because when the lineups are announced months later, it's always about the same amount of bands or more. HAVING SAID THAT, there is nothing that says had it not rained, that they would not have been able to deliver all the bands like they have done many times in the past. SI LA PLI A PAT TONBE....FESTIVAL LA TAP DELIVRE TOUT JAZ YO SAN PWOBLEM IN MY HONEST OPINION...PASKE YO FE'L DEJA. But the rain happened...that's a REALITY, so we are dealing with the REALITY and NOT with what COULD have happened.

There are calls from many for the festival to reinvent itself, but HOW exactly do they want them to do it? IT IS A COMPAS FESTIVAL, and you can't blame them for trying to stick with the most popular bands in the HMI as their headliners year in and year out. One must understand that after all...IT IS A BUSINESS $$$$$$ first, and these guys will go with the bands that will bring them the money/crowds.

MIAMI COMPASFEST is much more about the weekend vibe and other activities than the festival, but what seems to be clearer and LOUDER this year is that more people are screaming in their ears for them to RANJE KO YO/GET THEIR SH*T STRAIGHT on many different fronts (That we will get into later on) if they don't want the festival to lose the appeal that it had in years past. Only the 2 head people will know how they decide to respond to these calls. Will they be kind, lower their egos, and address these many issues, or will they pout, complain, talk bad about their critics, and say YAP ESSEYE KRAZE FESTIVAL YO AN? Only THEY have that answer.

I am glad I did not attend this year. The festival is held in Florida folks and in Florida it rains. Especially it has been raining for the last month it seems. It is amazing to me that they did not pay attention the the five day forecast of the meteorologists or something. Knowing these things, the stage manager should have a plan that covers what happens if it is raining that day shouldn't they?

Hope this time that they listen to the complaints because from what I hear, those voices are getting louder and louder each year.

KM, offering diversity while still having the headliners perform shouldn't be a problem if some imagination and creativity is used.
