REST IN PEACE JACQUES FRANCOIS
March 10,1940 – April 16, 2012

Jacques François who was also known as TI JACQUES was one of the famous trumpet players of the band Septentrional. Ti Jacques became one of the most popular Haitian musicians in the Diaspora especially in N.Y where he had a regular show at Chez Julie Restaurant in Queens, one of first Haitian businesses in the developing 1970s Haitian Community.
In one of the songs he mentioned that Chez Julie was the spot to be and indeed it was one of the first hangout spot and people who came to N.Y would make that stop to listen to Ti Jacques and his band TROPICAL COMBO DE TI JACQUES. Today we have many options and many bands to enjoy, but in the early 70s, the choice was limited and nostalgic Haitians would occupy the venues that can offer the taste of Haiti in food & music and Chez Julie did just that with Haitian food while Tropical Combo de Ti Jacques made them revive the good tunes of Lakay. The song INFORMATION...in which he said "Information banm adrès Julie Restoran nan wiken sa mwen pap chita lakay mwen, information banm adrès Julie Restoran m'pral nan besment la poum kab al sucre kò mwen".
Ti Jacques was also one of the daring musicians of his time, considering one of his most demanding songs at the time was titled "Dechire Pantalette which was followed later by "Pantalette à Corde"...In that song the artist said Tan pou nou mete pantalèt a kòd...pito nou rete san pantalèt...This in the early 70s was considered very out of the ordinary since we were a very Frenchie and Tulututu society it was way before we could talk about 100% K.K. Like I said earlier the song Pantalette à Corde was the follow up to his hit song DECHIRE PANTALETTE...in which he said...sak te diw dechire pantalèt....pou ki rezon ou retire soutien...saw tap vinn fè ou dessann bikini'w....etc...
Rest In Peace Ti Jacques you sure was a great entertainer and I had my share of Pantalette songs in the 70s at Chez Julie on Linden Blvd in Queens....anpil souvenirs...
