JEAN EDDY BAZILE STATEMENT!

Public Response to Cancellation of New York Labor Day Carnival;

First, I am not one to come out publicly with statements, however, after my reputation has been attacked, I am compelled to respond.

First, I want you to be aware of the situation that transpired regarding the cancellation of the New York Labor Day Carnival. I was hired to build a Float, including providing sound, and all necessary steps to ensure registration for this event. Despite that fact that this all occurred at the last minute, I worked diligently to make this event happen.

I have not received a dime from T-Vice for this event. I have spent money from my own pocket to ensure registration of the event, I have spent money for deposit of the truck for the Float, and for other incidentals.

Second, despite working on a tight schedule with deadlines looming, I was appalled and extremely disappointed to learn that the manager of T-Vice, who stonewalled every attempt to make this event happen, has made untrue and inflammatory accusations against me. I must set the record straight.

Third, on my end, everything that needed to be done was completed. I made an agreement with T-Vice management to do the Float on Sunday, August 28, 2011. We agreed on a price. After several conversations during the week, T-Vice management pursued more sponsors, even though Viola and Nopin committed to sponsorship and there was ample funding to do a float. Still, T-Vice management insisted on securing more funding from sponsorships to pay T-Vice to play. Yet, the T-Vice management remained rigid. On late Thursday evening, T-Vice management approved moving forward with the Carnival, so I began once again to move forward with the arrangements for the event: traveling to New York, funding the project (event registration, insurance, truck rental, site rental, etc.).

On the other hand, the funding that was committed to by T-Vice management was not provided. The arrangement was that T-Vice management would provide a bank check for the sound equipment. Despite this, T-Vice management reneged on the agreement, making sudden excuses about inability to travel to the bank. This resulted in a split payment of personal check and cash to the Sound Company, a violation of the contract.

As a result, the Sound Company, who arrived on site at noontime, and stayed until midnight waiting for a resolution. They finally decided to leave because they did not get the appropriate type of payment which was improper. The Sound Company left the site, and reported that they were threatened by individuals representing T-Vice manager. Without sound, no event could have occurred. Given these facts, I wish to set the record straight and refute the misrepresentations about what happened in this case and I will follow up with more information soon.

Avoka T-vice yo ap prepare case yo la, tale yo pral vinn pou Jean Eddy la. Yo te gentan ap bay misye presyon pou li kenbe silans.
Mwen te premye moun ki pat kwe nan bs statement Jessie te lage kom eskiz T-vice pat sou parkway a. M'konnen te gen plis deye'l.

Any way the only thing that I will say is that I stayed in N.Y to see T.Vice on the parkway....avek bel CARTE PELOUSE POU STaFF PoZé only to find out while checking out KM that they will not be on the parade of Caribbean bands. Later I saw so many disappointed and upset Haitians in Brooklyn because to my recollection this is the very first time since I've been going to Eastern Parkway since 1975 that we didn't have a band to represent our beloved country....Well I did my own carnival on I 95 on the way back to Maryland....So whatever this drama maybe...it will not help any of the people who made it to the parkway for the major disappointment. Later on those parties will reconcile and it will be business as usual FOR THEM, but the fact of the matter is that history will tell that in 2011 HAITI (not T.Vice) was absent on Eastern Parkway.

Eastern Parkway is very dear to me...I remember in 1975 when Tabou Combo came out with the song WRONG NUMBER...and got us all to sing NAP MACHE AK CHIFON POU EFASE NUMEWO because Skah Shah was claiming to be Skah Shah #1...My second best memory was when I sang my heart out on the parkway in the late 80s with G.P.Express singing the D.P.Express carnival La Mort De La Bète with Ansyto giving me instructions...A couple of years ago I was delighted to watch Kreyol La going by and watched Ansyto giving the same instructions to Ti Joe Zenny and I said to my self you go Chachot (that's the way we called him in G.P) you are still my best on that Konpa keyboard.
This yearly parade may mean different things to many people, but to me it's a way to revive one of the best memories of my life as an artist. It means a lot to me also to see our culture being represented on the N.Y big Caribbean day by the current generation...It could be the same feeling for all the other Caribbean artists who have been part of the parade in the past 44 years....One day maybe 25 years from now, today's artists who are the kings of the parkway may someday stand on the side and look at the floats and remember the so many great first Mondays of September...but 2011 will always remain the year we failed to prove that L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE....
People may point fingers and drop millions of statements...still there is no excuse for HAITI to be absent on the parkway...Responsible parties should take responsibilities seriously when millions of people rely on their professionalism to represent the nation.
