 |
|
How hard/difficult is it for a band to CHANGE the fan base that's been following a group?
If a group or groups decides that they want to reach a certain fan base that they've never had before, whether it's a band that use to cater more to the hardcore compas followers; making a move for the ones who enjoy the more mellow type of Compas, or whether it's a group that has appealed to the mellow compas lovers; now wanting to make a move for the hardcore compas crowd; IS THAT REALLY REALISTIC?
*Are there any examples from the past to support that it has been done before; or that it CAN be done?
Should that be looked at as a RISKY business move, or is it a move that one way or another MUST BE MADE by every band in the HMI?

Changing fan base will involve changing musical
style wich is indeed very risky. Fans become confuse
and the targeted fans are always sceptical at first.
Mwen preferer when bands mix it up a bit but to
change their styles brip sou kou a, i dont think so.
Gabel try to swicth things a bit with Flav and target a
younger fanbase, map suiv results yo toujou. _________________ Lòd Nan Dezòd

The secret is in the type of music you produce..
And the type of lyrics your songs are made of.. _________________ P.P.P= PIYAY POU PIPO

It's easy on the degree of the change.
The more drastic the more you turn people off.
Carimi and Nu Look are examples. Djakout before La Familia.
Does it have to be done? It depends on their musical and business goals. _________________ "Mrs. Jones, we got a thing going on...." |

You did not even answer the question epi WAP VOYE MONTE.
The post said BOTH WAYS; meaning those who want to appeal to the hardcore compas fans, and also those who want to appeal to the fans that prefer the LESS hardcore flavor.
BAY YON TI COMMENT SOU QUESTION AN brother...instead of the voye monte

You have to change the the way you produce your music
Of course! It can be done, with MAITRISE!
A BAND IS like a business. They have to adjust to address the need of the consumer. Period.
TABOU COMBO did it in teh 80's.
If you do not want to do it, wap mouri nan film lan
PS. BY THE WAY, WHAT IS WRONG IF A BAND WANT TO " MONTE SOU FLORVILLE"?
ET DJAZZ KI PAKA MONTE OKEN KOTE LI MENM?
M PA JEANM WE OU MOUN KAP DESAN TET LI NON, SE MONTE WI
A LA RANS, PAPA

Ou byen djaz ki PA KA Monte florvile yo
Bottom line is this...
You know it's going to hurt you when you only cater to one generation/gender..
So it's a must that you slowly but surely produce for your main fan base to be satisfied, and at the same time attract new clientele..
Timoun yo pa vle we granmoun nAn bal djaz yo.. E granmoun yo se nan bal timoun yo yo bezwen al pran plezi yo..kite madanm yo lakay al fe koyo nan
Carimi..
So why not for a band like zenglen/Nu look to adjust a little, even though their fan base is more mature, they can deliver a product that from time to time will force the younger generation yo tcheck them out if carimi is not in town..
But nou konnen tou ke gen djaz menm di se yo menm selman ki te gen dans le monde entier.. La Jeunesse ak ti Medames yo pa ba yo anyen regle! _________________ P.P.P= PIYAY POU PIPO

Pat,
when bands try to shove something down one's throat by neglecting the very same fans that propelled their popularity, it turns me off especially if the new product isn't to my liking.
Nu Look is a perfect example.
You look at the comments some of the so-called Nu Look fans made on the Disip "update pictures" thread, not too long ago the same comments were made about the band regarding their fanbase The funny thing is, these fans are the same ones that will support their bands through thick and thin, they will buy your albums, they will go out to their parties. In other words, YAP MACHE AVEK JAZZ LA. Epi kounyea menm moun sa yo te gentan pat bon pou jazz la ankor!
Tchuip again ankor!
I started listening to Nu Look in 04, I became a fan of the band when I started listening to them, the band stood out for something them. Compas Direct in its purest form along with Zenglen. Map tande kelke ansyen NL 2003 -2007, bagay sa fem mal.
I have nothing against Arly and the band, I respect him for all he's done and contributed to our genre. It's his choice to change the band's style, it actually started on "Abo" in actuality. Respecting it is one, accepting it is another and that I cannot and won't do. I love Nu Look but they will not get the same type of support that they used to getting from me. _________________ Bat Chyen An Tan'n Met Li
