This is a topic that has supporters on BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE. Is it better to create bands WITH FRIENDS or NOT?

A couple of examples that we got from the FRIENDS ASPECT is Mario DeVolcy saying in "HMI TV NEWS 8" that you can see FASIL DE REGINALD CANGE playing LIVE, and you see ALL THE MUSICIANS SMILING & HAVING FUN on stage, compared to many other bands where that kind of camaraderie does not exist. Another example given on that side of the fence is DISIP. GAZZMAN's first 2 recruits to handle his business affairs for the group were two long time friends PATRICK FABRE and TI BLANC to be his partners to handle his group's affairs...people that he can trust.

On the other side of the fence, you have people who say that CHEMISTRY is more important than FRIENDSHIP in a band. An example given to us was that NOT too many people knew that TI JOE ZENNY & DAVID DUPOUX spent 1 year without talking to each other...all this at the height of KONPA KREYOL's popularity. It did NOT have any effect on the band ON STAGE IN FRONT OF THE PUBLIC because they were able to keep it professional. The same thing can be said about NU LOOK (ARLY & GAZZMAN) who for many many years kept the business going, despite the fact that they were NOT the best of friends.

WHERE DO YOU STAND ON THIS? Tell us why.

KM!

I think it could be good but, more likely bad for different reasons:

a band is a business after all and, too much friendship is really not a good
thing when it comes to business. simply because, lots of people tend to
combine frindship with business example: oh M' gen dwa fer sa paske misye se zanmim. li lan djazz la met djazz se zanmil li kab fer sal vle which is
so wrong.

and this also applies for having a business with familly (GOOD & BAD). but again it all depends on who you dealing with.

I believe, and I might be wrong here, that most bands start up with friends or at least a group of people with a certain acquaintance to each other. However, I think it’s better to create a band with people who possess collective goals, are willing to work hard and make sacrifices, open to diverse outlooks from their counterparts, ect. The best friends do not always make the best business partners, but there ought to be a degree of mutual respect and trust (at least) among band members and associates.

It’s hard (for me) to list pros and cons as different sets of circumstances may apply, but in the music industry, if you want to go somewhere, anywhere, and become bigger, you must look at it from a professional/business perspective, sure there can be friends, but music should be the top priority even if that means not working with the ones who are your friends or keep working with the ones you cannot stand.

I believe that artists from the old generation era were more opt to co-exist as friends in a band, cause it was done for fun and money was not a big issue then. Though it can happen and had happened in the new generation era; however it does not and will never last, cause MONEY is and will remain the resultant force behind the friendship.....thus it's all about business........FRIENDSHIP less than equal to CHEMISTRY which last as long as business is good
