A bientôt. Jean-Claude Duvalier. Paris , le 15 janvier 2010

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Message of Solidarity to the people of Haiti from Mr. Jean-Claude Duvalier (following the earthquake of January 12, 2010)

Dear compatriots,

It is with horror and deep emotion, but also a great concern, that I have followed the deadly and devastating consequences of the terrible earthquake that struck our country so mercilessly.

In this time of great national distress, my thoughts go out to the wounded, to the victims, particularly children and youth, their families and loved ones. In this time of grief and mourning, I assure you of my total solidarity, and I extend to the families so cruelly affected my sincere condolences and my deepest sympathies. I also extend to all the rescue teams mobilized my gratitude for the outstanding work they are doing under these extremely difficult conditions. I would like to express my sincere thanks and encourage the great spirit of solidarity that all Haitians [in Haiti] and all Haitians around the world show, and that the international community fully endorses.

Let the community be assured of my profound gratitude. Faced with this heavy and sickening tribute, once again, inflicted on the people and land of Haiti, the whole nation must be mobilized to overcome its misfortunes. Despite the seriousness of the situation, I wish to express my hope and my belief that Haiti will find its way, thanks to an exceptional mobilization of forces in our country, with the help of the international community, to the path of real reconstruction .

Haitian people, I know your extraordinary courage, dedication and sacrifices which you are all capable of to save our country. These difficult times that we are living in call in the sense of national sacrifice. In these particularly dramatic/tragic circumstances for our country, I wish to express my solidarity and my support.

I formally request to Swiss authorities to immediately transfer all assets of the foundation of my late mother, Simone Ovide Duvalier, $8 million USD to the American Red Cross, in order to bring emergency assistance, primarily for people in cities of Léogane (hometown of my late Mother), Carrefour (hometown of my late father), and Port-au-Prince (where I was born), but also Gressier, Pétion-Ville, Jacmel, Les Cayes, Petit Goave, Grand Goave...

I immediately made arrangements for emergency first-aid to reach Port-au-Prince at the earliest, and an important group of volunteers was mobilized to help people in distress. For poor families, the homeless, disaster areas, children and youth, I send a great message of brotherhood and solidarity in this cruel ordeal. May God save Haiti!

See you soon!

Jean-Claude Duvalier

this was already in the let's Talk section but I don't think he really has the authority to say what to do with the money. He just decided not to contest it anymore. Sooo whatever....keep it moving Arrow
