My advice to Tempo (band & management): Seek ways to include other states besides New York in your schedule/calendar. Otherwise, what you have just shared won't be considered much as news but as a reminder OR shall I say redundancy/blah!

As a PR, I would have only shared the "Haiti" part of the calendar as THAT is what the "news" in this schedule is. Many things to work with there e.g. first trip; press conference @ Montana; gigs with major top bands in Haiti (Kreyol La, Barikad Crew, Vwadezil); and Le Lambi. That would have been a nice press release right there. THEN when you return OR as the trip goes along, you share the pictures and news of how it went. NOW the announcement comes that you are celebrating your band's 1st year anniversary. This keeps you and your band more RELEVANT and INTERESTING in the eyes of the press and public with RELEVANT and INTERESTING NEWS. Idea

Jean Celestin & Konpa Rockers, is there a certain amount of gigs that one must play when going to Haiti? Confused

Bands hop on planes taking 6 to 8 hour flights to France for 2 gigs. Drive for 6 hours to Canada for 2 gigs OR fly for 4 hours for the same 2 gigs. Panama, Australia, California on long long flights for even ONE gig. Please tell me why it is so shocking or sad that a band goes to Haiti for just 2 gigs (2 great gigs on top of that)?

P.S. I am sincerely looking for the reasoning/analogy behind this so that I can better understand the HMI mentality--and that includes the fans. Idea

Many new bands don't really like playing out of their hometown for some reason.. Its tough trying to be accepted from other states but you gotta roll with the punches.. Its all part of the new band game...

I agree, EY. Many bands are apprehensive when it comes to that. It is totally understandable, too. I know the feeling when you see 15 folks at your bal and you are from out of state. If anything, make sure that at least 5 of those folks are media that will talk about how great you have done so that others can come and see next time around. Eventually, you will reach the promise land. Some faster than others; but with perseverance you will get there.
