OK guys, this is a question directed more specifically at the Montreal crowd but anyone can give their thoughts on the matter. Here goes:
After paying $35 to see ZEKLE and MIZIK-MIZIK last week-end, (where both bands combined to give a solid performance for 5 hours) how do you feel to pay the same amount (maybe more) to see a single band performing in your city?

i think many things come into play with the price of a bal. one it depend on the location, you can have a bal in NY with carimi charge $20 at the door where it will be impossible to do something like that in CT, two what kind of deal was made between the band and the promoter cause we all know a well known promoter will most likely get a better price so at the end it's all business if you don't feel you are getting enough for your money just stay home but you can't ask of a promoter to lower the price just because you don't like it |

Depends on the band and the location.
But then again...
I paid 10 bucks to see Belo twice...
and both performances were better than any bal i've ever been to.
So Im not sure I have ever gotten my money's worth.
But I will pay 35 bucks to see the following bands alone:
tropicana,
tabou combo
mizik mizik

This is what I heard.....
There is no fixed price when booking bands....
if im booking a band they will question me about the venue, its location and its capacity....
I think that's why prices vary.
Let's say you book T-vice in Montreal.......they're playing at a venue with a 300 hundred capacity......they charge 4 thousand dollars.....
knowing promotors they host bals to make money....not to show off......the price for that bal should be $30 or more.....cover expenses and also make reasonable profits........
If my venue's capacity is 6 hundreds.....im sure They won't charge me the same booking fee....
i might be wrong............but that's how i look at it.... _________________ «Nègre, je suis et, nègre, je resterai.» Je suis Philosophenoir |

35$ was very worth it for Zekle and Mizik Mizik because these guys played the full night....and they are professionals.
If all bands could garanty that kind of service, I would have no problem paying more money.
I prefer to pay a higher price and only attend one single-band-quality-bal, then to attend 2-3 bals where the first band only starts playing at 12h30.....and the second band only gives you 3 songs due to so called ''sound problems''... |

I would not pay $35 for just any regular band to play. _________________ If it don't make $$... Then it don't make sense! |
