 |
|
WHY DID CARIMI "NOT" PLAY AT THE KREYOL LA/CARIMI party in Miami on Sunday in what turned out to be a closing ceremony for ORLANDOFEST 2009...even though they were there? This is what manager FITO FARINEN told us.
FITO FARIEN: "It was NOT a money issue. I had been telling the promoters for weeks that the party would not be good and that I as the manager of CARIMI, does not want my band to look bad, especially in a crucial market such as Miami where we usually have parties that have about 2000 + attendees. I had gotten word that there weren't flyers down there for the party, therefore our fans would not be aware of it. I even told them NOT to pay me, that I would sit that one party out, but they insisted."
FITO continues "Finally we went down there with the intention of playing, and when we got there at 1:30, they barely had 100 people in the place. In this business everyone handles their bands the way they want to. I myself personally made the decision of us NOT to play that night because I did not want my band to look bad, especially after I tried to cancel that party for weeks before it actually happened. I can take the heat that comes with that decision. The bottom line is in this business, if you do a bal or a few bals that are not good in a particular area, some might try to use that against you when you are giving them your price for a gig. That will NOT happen to CARIMI, and that is why I am very picky/careful on how and where I program the band to play, as well as how often in a particular market."
FITO continues "I'll take full responsibility for it."

FITO also stated that when he accepted the deposit from the ORLANDO promoters for the weekend, he was under the impression that they would have him play in ORLANDO, and NOT in Miami like they did on Sunday.

I agree with him. Fito ap jere djazz la. It's better for the band to forgo one party if this party can potentially affect the band's asking price for future transactions in the area. _________________ "I think I have managed to pay respect to some of my childhood heroes but my most important work is always ahead of me."

I understand all that was said by Fito but at the same time you have fans that come out and see you and if they see you at the club and you don't play they will feel as if you just don't care. Ginde fanatik ki pa bezwin konnen si te gin 2 moun nan club la depi yo te peye se jwe pou'w jwe. |

I don't know how i feel about this one... while I understand where Fito is coming from by looking out for his band & all, that's all good & gravy... At the same time what about the 50 people that were there & paid their money??? I would understand If Carimi was an upcoming band, but they already prove themselves in this business, so that shouldn't matter at all... What about Kreyol la who played, does that make them any less than Carimi??? I don't like this @ all, that just shows you that Carimi/Fito don't really care about their fans but more about themselves...
They just want to prove that they can sell out a place, blah blah, but that's already been proving. so what's the big deal?

I'm sorry but I disagree Fito...so you decided against it because you saw there were only a hundred fans at the venue??? So now the fans have to pay the price because of bad advertising or whatever the reason may be??? Not cool!!! |

i don't agree with fito on this one, it doesn't matter how many people is in the club you get pay for a show, you have play the show period, what about the people that spend their time and money to be there. i have seen t-vice playing for chaise a table in their prime so what there is nobody in the place, you get pay to play not to feel up the place that's the promoter's job |

You know what, I agree with Fito. Fito is doing what any competent manager would be doing, he's looking out for his band's best interests. Afterall, it is his responsibility as a co-owner of the band and manager. _________________ Bat Chyen An Tan'n Met Li
