How many cartoons depicted GWB in a rather idiot shade of light? I've never heard any complaints... But Rev. Al "Not So" Sharpton has been quiet for a while, and what other way to reinvent himself, but to stir controversy...

As a black man, I am not offended at all... What's your take on this JVJ?

It's pretty simple - IDIOTS... It took almost six months to pass a pill, that chimps would've completed the bill in days...

What do you suggest? If we're gonna over analyze everything, we might as well tell Obama to resign now... This is surely not the last that is going to suggest a rather negative context towards the President...

We're having this discussion because it's obviously not that "simple." I'm positive that the cartoonist didn't just happen to come up with this idea to reference how "Idiots" in government, the congress and the presidency, - I'm assuming that's what you meant. Please correct me, if I'm wrong - simply couldn't pass a bill that "chimps would've completed" in days. This was to stir controversy and it's doing its job. While you can summarize this cartoon in a simple few words, I can't help but "overanalyze" it and draw another simple conclusion from it.

The moment I saw that image, two interpretations instantly came to mind as a Black person: Benny's explanation as well as LJB's. It is the epitome of W.E.B. Dubois' concept of "double consciousness"- the awareness of oneself, as well as the awareness of how the larger society perceives that (black) person.

First, let's consider the source- The New York post. Those of you who live in the NorthEast probably know better than I that this sorry excuse for a "newspaper" should more accurately be referred to as tabloid trash for its practice of the worst form of yellow journalism.

Second, I'm not that smart! If I could have instantaneously recognized the faux pas, so could have the cartoonist and his editor. To have allowed this cartoon to be published suggests either stupidity, callousness, poor judgement or all of the above! They knew what they were going for: shock value, and they had the perfect excuse (see Benny's explanation) in case sh8 started to hit the fan!

Third, let's take a moment to examine the picture itself:

Exactly what do 2 white cops with a smoking gun and a bullet-riddled, tongue wagging, armed-stretched monkey that's soaking in its own blood have to do with an approved stimulus package? Somehow I'm supposed to believe that the dead chimp represents the entire body of congress and not the lone first black president who was scurrilously referred to as the monkey "Curious George" and placed on T-shirts with a banana in his hand during the campaign? umm ok!
And for argument sake, suppose the cartoonist really meant nothing by it, since when were chimps considered unintelligent? Chimps are used in scientific experiments, have flown to space, have been taught sign languages, etc., so that explanation to me is bunk!

Grace a Dieu, mpa pi sot pase sa and I'm far from being hypersensitive so I'm not easily offended. But my perpetual cynicism will always preclude me from being sold bad bill of goods! So if anyone buys this crapola of an excuse from the Post, I've got some shaved ice to sell you right outside Sarah Palin's house in Wasilla, Alaska!
