INDYFEST top dog GERALD "KALIKO" FIRMIN told me that THE 2009 EDITION of his INDYFEST festival is THE LAST TIME that they will have as many acts as they do in the one coming up on January 17th.

He told me that the festival will take a NEW APPROACH starting with the 2010 edition.

A SUIVRE!

KM!

PAT, TO BE HONEST, I THINK GERALD SHOULD BE THINKING CHANGING THE DATE OF THE FESTIVAL AS WELL. FRANKLY, THE JANUARY DATE REALLY AFFECTS THE TURN OUT OF THE FESTIVAL. I DO NOT KNOW WHICH DATE HE SHOULD PUT IT, BUT JANUARY IS TOO CLOSE TO DECEMBER.
ANYWAY, LESS ACTS MAKE SENSE

>> I would much rather see a festival with less bands that play more. Let's say for at least an hour. And that the focus is on making music not in show or fan interaction.

All Haitian festivals present lots of bands. I guess, is a matter of preference. Its fun that way too; to have a lot of bands. and that's what people had liked and accepted, obviously.

On another side, this is going to be a Health Test to the HMI; to test strength in particular.

Will the HMI and the HAITIAN music fan base and their love for KOMPA music be strong enough to make two major music events, that "happen" to be on the same day, a success?

Will there be enough strong, artistic, accomplished HAITIAN KOMPA BANDS to line up two major festivals that "coincidently" happen to be on the same day?

Let's hope for that. Let's hope love for music, roots and art comes to the rescue. Let's hope for two successful events, filled with fans and filled with most amazing music.

So, that, then when all its done, when the notes had quite down, the vibes mellow down, the musical, dancing after tasted still in spirit and soul, then, it would be written that the HMI is so strong and healthy that supported and made two major events a success, on the same day.

Let's hope for that.

Mexkompa Roots

PS HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL BANDS, PROMOTERS, ARTISTS, SINGERS, DRUMMERS, ALL MUSICIANS AND THE FANS AND ALL AT KM, AND PAT, AND ALL YOU OUT THERE, AND EVERYONE IN HAITI!!!!!!!!!! BEST WISHES, HEALTH, LOVE, SUCCESS, CROSSOVER, TO 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
